I don’t think it matters or affects your PhD. You can switch from global talent right away. It does not stop you from continuing your PhD. Switch now means your settlement time starts counting on GTV.

I submitted Stage 2 before my PhD viva examination but after thesis submission. TBH when you submit your PhD thesis and your Stage 2 application are not interdependent. Just submit your Stage 2 if you have already got endorsement from Stage 1. So, don’t worry about PhD.
