When to apply for Global Talent

I am currently on a student visa and I would like to find out when is the appropriate time to apply for the global talent visa. Can you apply for endorsement first while on the student visa then apply for visa after completion of studies?

Is it still okay to apply for both even when you are yet to complete your studies, does it affect your visa application? Can you still be granted the visa before the completion of your studies? Please I would need an advice regarding how it works. Thank you

You can apply for endorsement few months before the end of your study. You have three months to apply for a visa after you get endorsed. If you apply for the visa while still studying you will be refused.

The right time to apply isn’t about a calendar event - it’s about whether your profile and mainly evidence is ready.

I’ve seen two failure modes in the past: people who apply too early and don’t have enough external recognition, and people who wait indefinitely because they never feel “ready enough.”

Signs you’re ready to apply:

  • You can clearly evidence the mandatory criteria with at least 2-3 pieces of verifiable, third-party documentation - not just employer letters.
  • Your recommenders have known your work for at least 12 months, are established experts, and are not your immediate managers or colleagues.
  • Your evidence reflects a sustained track record, not a burst of activity created in the past few months specifically for this visa. Assessors are trained to spot the latter, and the official guidance explicitly disqualifies it.
  • You have a coherent narrative for your personal statement - not just a list of achievements, but a story of why you and why the UK.

Map your profile against the criteria in the official guide before spending £524 on the endorsement fee. A structured self-assessment takes a few hours and saves a lot of pain. I have a few blogs on the topic as well :grin:
