Has anyone applied for Stage 2 right after submitting Stage 1 application and waiting for it’s outcome. It seems the UK gov website allows that but are there any downside of doing that?

I know some applicants did this as they were in the Uk already and their visa is about to end. Risk is if they dont get endorsed stage 2 is invalid.
