hope you are all doing well
I am preparing my application for the UK Global Talent Visa (Digital Technology – Exceptional Promise) and would really appreciate an honest review of my proposed evidence structure.
My background is originally in Chemical Engineering, but over the past few years I have transitioned into AI, climate technology, digital innovation, and entrepreneurship. I am the Founder of a UK-based climate-tech startup developing AI-powered sustainability solutions for SMEs, while also leading a global STEM innovation and mentorship platform. Alongside building digital products, I have published research, presented internationally, mentored innovators, and contributed to the wider technology ecosystem.

I intend to apply using:

  3. University Head of Department (HOD), who can explain my research journey and also my job period as a lab engineer (how I led and digitise the labs)

Mandatory Criterion (MC)
Evidence 1 – Founder and Product Leadership (WasteX Stream)
Evidence demonstrating my leadership as the Founder of Company and creator of product, an AI-powered climate-tech platform helping SMEs reduce food waste, carbon emissions and operational costs.
Evidence includes:
• Companies House registration.
• Product architecture and AI workflow.
• MVP screenshots and product journey.
• Pilot customer not yet (but this journey progressed in Accelerator)
• Evidence of leadership throughout product development.

Evidence 2 – National and International Recognition
Evidence demonstrating external recognition for my innovation in climate technology.
Evidence includes:
• Global Recognition Award.
• Engineering Matters Awards Shortlisting.
• Startup competitions
• Won Hackathon in UK
• Sustainable Venture Accelerator acceptance
• University innovation funding and their feedback as well
• One Reference letter of tech leader who familiar with my product journey and impact
Evidence 3 – Industry Collaborations
Evidence demonstrating recognition through:
• International conference presentations.
• Speaking invitations
• Workshop attend more than 100 students and researchers in one university
• Media coverage about my work by one social platform
• Industry collaborations.

Optional Criterion 2 (OC2)
Evidence 4 – Founder of Volunteer STEM mentorship application
Evidence demonstrating voluntary contribution to the technology ecosystem through founding and leading the platform, a global STEM innovation and mentorship application.
Responsibilities include:
• Organising international webinar series.
• Building innovation community.
• Mentoring 100+ students and researchers.
• Creating opportunities for early-stage innovators.
• Developing partnerships with universities.
Evidence includes:
• Website.
• Webinar records.
• Testimonials.
• Partnership evidence (MOU)
• Community engagement.

Evidence 5 – Organized Startup Challenge under STEM platform
Evidence demonstrating contribution beyond my employment through organising an innovation challenge supporting aspiring founders.
Responsibilities include:
• Designing the challenge.
• Recruiting judges and mentors.
• Evaluating startups.
• Mentoring innovators.
• Supporting participants beyond the competition.
Evidence includes:
• Event documentation.
• Jury participation.
• Startup evaluation.
• Testimonials.
• Participant feedback.
• Jury Feedback (they belong to Tech company and Education sector)

Evidence 6 – Research Mentorship and Public Speaking
Evidence demonstrating contribution to the wider technology community through:
• Volunteer research mentoring
• Served as industry mentor of Two FYP in progress of MOU
• University workshops.
• International webinars.
• Invited talks on AI, sustainability and climate technology
Evidence includes:
• Invitation letters.
• One Reference letter by Advisor of my volunteer platform (She also have GTV and more than 13 years’ experience in university as an assistant professor)
• Event posters.
• Virtually Presentation Screen Shots.
• Photos.
• Testimonials.

Optional Criterion 4 (OC4)
Evidence 7 – Research Publications
Evidence demonstrating academic contribution through peer-reviewed publications focused on AI, sustainability and climate technology.
Evidence includes:
• Journal publications.
• Springer publication as a 3rd author
• IEEE paper a led author
• Abstract research ppt in one conference in Saudia (Attach Certificate and acceptance email)
• One more research work submitted in IEEE conference (Under reviewed can I wait for this acceptance)

Evidence 8 – Research recognitions and Influence
Evidence includes:
• IEEE Collaboration research work in UK and that organization impressed by my work and show future interest in research.
• One PhD researcher from Italy sends me email and ask for research collab.
• Invitation in one project based on my research expertise.
• One reference letter who is collaborator is one of my paper support whole research portfolios

Questions
I would really appreciate feedback on the following:

  1. Overall evidence structure: Does my evidence appear to be mapped appropriately to the Mandatory Criterion, Optional Criterion 2 and Optional Criterion 4, or are there any obvious gaps or overlaps that I should address?
  2. Mandatory Criterion: My application focuses heavily on leading company and its an AI-powered climate-tech product supported by awards, accelerator acceptance, startup funding and external recognition by one supporting letter. Would this be considered sufficiently strong for the Mandatory Criterion, or should I strengthen it further with additional media coverage or industry recognition?
  3. Research to Product Journey: Since my research directly led to the development of my product, does presenting this progression strengthen my application under Optional Criterion 4, or would reviewers expect stronger academic impact metrics?
  4. Community Contribution: I founded mentorship platform, a global STEM mentorship and innovation platform where I organise webinars, mentor students, organise startup challenges, and collaborate with universities. Does this fit well under Optional Criterion 2, or would you recommend restructuring this evidence?
  5. Overall, Strength: Based on this evidence structure, are there any obvious weaknesses or missing pieces that I should address before submitting my application?

Your MC evidence is mostly self-generated, which is where it’s exposed. Companies House registration, your own product architecture, and MVP screenshots prove the venture exists without showing the market recognises you as a leader. With no pilot customer or paying user yet, the awards and accelerator carry the criterion alone. A signed pilot LOI or a real customer would validate commercial traction far better than adding another award.

The paper still under review can’t count for OC4, so the answer to whether you should wait is no. Exceptional Promise needs research that is peer-reviewed, published, or endorsed by a supervising expert, and a pending submission is none of those. Lean on the published IEEE paper where you’re lead author and the Springer work, and add a supervisor or co-author letter affirming the portfolio.

OC2 is judged on field-advancing impact backed by independent recognition, not on how many webinars or mentees you accumulate. Documenting how the mentorship platform selects its cohort and gathering outside recognition of its reach will move it more than volume. Check too that no conference or speaking piece is doing double duty across MC and OC2, because the same document can’t satisfy two criteria.
