Is it compulsory to have letterhead on Recommendation Letter as i have a friend who is working at Microsoft he is ok to write it but he does not have letterhead ?
Yes it has to be on letterhead. Plus a letter from a friend is not considered valid - it needs to be from someone who knows your work in detail for 12 months or more and can write about your contributions and impact.
that is not only my friend but collegue and we worked together for 6 years than he got a job at Microsoft so he knows my work and he can help me to write it but he does not have Letterhead
TN guidelines specify need of official letters on letterheads.

I am not sure its so compulsory as i have seen people that have Submitted LORs without Letterhead. TN Guildance says “…where applicable”… so its not a must as most Organisations dont even allow staffs to use Company’s Letterhead for purpose like this.

I think it is always advisable to use letterhead. There are reasonable exceptions when the person has left the company.
