Question about recommendation letter

For the Global Talent Visa in Digital Technology, I need to confirm if someone is suitable to write a recommendation letter for me.

The person I have in mind has more than 15 years of experience in cloud architecture, enterprise infrastructure, and security. He works as a Cloud and Solution Architect and System Manager, and he was my senior at the company where I delivered cybersecurity work. He supervised my tasks, reviewed my work, and aligned my security improvements with the company’s infrastructure and cloud environment.

He does not have publications or media features, but he has long hands-on experience in infrastructure, cloud, and security, and has led major technical projects.

Would this profile usually be accepted as an established expert for a recommendation letter author for the Global Talent Visa, considering that my work with him involved cybersecurity and security architecture?

@omar_szn

Based on what you’ve shared, yes he sounds like an established expert in his field, so he meets the first requirement for a recommender. The next thing to check is whether he has known your work for at least 12 months.

However, your statement

considering that my work with him involved cybersecurity and security architecture?

This is important, because his letter is only strong if it aligns with the area you’re applying under. For instance, if you’re applying as a Product Manager or Software Engineer now, but he never worked with you in that capacity or saw your work in that area, then he wouldn’t be the right fit.

In short: he qualifies as an expert, but now depends on whether he can speak directly about the kind of work you’re using for your application.

All the best.

Thanks a lot @Raphael

Yes, we worked together for over 2 years. I’m a Cybersecurity analyst and was working under his supervision.
I’m also applying as an exceptional promise under cybersecurity

You are good to go with him. However, his letter should rightly align with what tech nation expects and listed in the guidance.

Awesome, thanks a lot.
I also have 2 LORs from well established and publicly known mentros. Do they satisfy the needs?
1 mentor in Cybersecurity and another as leader and founder in digital tech and own a digital-led company

Unfortunately, it is not advisable you get the letter from a mentor.
