Question about Online Presence

Hi all,

I am applying for the Tech Nation visa under the Exceptional Talent route. I noticed that a lot of the successful applications include media coverage and social media presence. As I don’t have much of an online presence (i.e. I have hibernated my LinkedIn account for the last 2 years), what is the general sentiment towards such a profile?

Thanks.

  1. You will need to have LinkedIn presence while you apply - this has a risk of flagging for authenticity.
  2. Having publicly verifiable evidences strengthen the application a lot : in the lack of it, see how strongly are you able to meet the criterias with whatever evidences you have.

I don’t think this is the only thing TechNation evaluates. As long as you meet required competencies you should be fine.

It isn’t necessary for you to have an online presence to be a significant leader or do significant work.

Online presence isn’t part of the Tech Nation requirements. If it were important, they would have stated it clearly in the official guide; it would have taken just one sentence to mention. Since it’s not included anywhere, it’s reasonable to assume it isn’t a factor.

If an assessor ever raised it as a reason for rejection, you’d be within your rights to ask where this requirement appears in their documentation. The criteria should be judged based on what’s written, not on assumptions.

@AbramNobleOX Fair point. However, an individual’s online footprint plays a significant role in demonstrating their achievements in the sector. It’s difficult to be genuinely recognised, to show impact, or to evidence meaningful contribution without a reasonable level of online presence and association with credible platforms or organisations.

Arguing that online presence is unimportant simply because it isn’t explicitly stated in the criteria is like saying anything not written in the Ten Commandments isn’t a sin. Not everything important is always explicitly listed.

It’s also important to note that endorsement is not determined solely by the eligibility criteria. The screenshot below is taken directly from the official guidance. Hence, I always talk about overall narrative and application story. From my recent study, this is one of the reasons for the high rejection rate.

All the best
