Please help Review: Exceptional Promise (Business) | FinOps & SAP QA Analyst

Hello everyone,

I am seeking a review of my partner’s profile for an Exceptional Promise application under the Business Criteria. She holds an MSc in Finance and Risk graduated in 2021 and currently serves as a FinOps Business Analyst and SAP QA Specialist at a global Tier-1 SaaS HR and Payroll provider. With approximately four years of post-Masters experience, we are seeking feedback on the strength of her evidence mapping, particularly for a hybrid BA/QA role in a product-led SaaS environment, for a submission in late March.

Her professional impact is defined by three core pillars of achievement. First, through her SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Finance & Payroll Transformation, she led the end-to-end migration of enterprise users from multiple legacy platforms to a standardized Public Cloud SaaS solution. This resulted in zero critical post-go-live issues, a 25% improvement in process consistency, and 95% SLA compliance during the hypercare phase. Second, as part of the SAP S/4HANA Release & UAT Optimisation Programme, she coordinated multiple cloud releases within a SaaS delivery model. By leading the UAT strategy and defect management, she reduced post-release defects by 30% and improved bug detection rates by 86% through a restructured testing and stakeholder sign-off framework. Third, her Embedded Analytics & Reporting Enablement Initiative involved designing and delivering SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics using CDS Views. This provided real-time visibility into finance and payroll performance metrics, significantly reducing manual data handling and increasing reporting reliability.

We intend to map these achievements to the Mandatory Criteria for Innovation and Leadership by highlighting her role in the Enterprise SaaS Migration Programme and providing a signed letter from a Senior level management personnel verifying the 86% improvement in bug detection. For Optional Criteria 3, regarding Significant Business Contribution, we will provide evidence of the 30% reduction in defects from her UAT Optimisation work, documentation of the technical product value added via CDS Views, and proof of the 25% process consistency gains. We plan to get another letter of recommendation at a global SaaS organisation,

I have three specific questions for the community regarding this profile.
Does this “Programme-led” framing sufficiently demonstrate leadership for the Exceptional Promise category?
Is the use of CDS Views for Embedded Analytics considered technical enough to support a Business pathway application for a non-developer?
Finally, with her 2021 graduation from UEL, does the community agree she remains a strong fit for the “Promise” early-career route rather than the “Talent” route?

I would value any insights on how to best present this narrative to bridge her Finance and Risk background with her current technical impact in the UK SaaS ecosystem.

From what you have described, it would be helpful to clearly outline what she plans to submit as evidence for the application. For the Mandatory Criteria, it is usually best to have 3–4 pieces of evidence that demonstrate recognition as a potential leader in the digital technology sector. For the Optional Criteria, she needs at least 3 pieces of evidence for each criterion selected. In total, the application must contain a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 evidence documents. She will also need three recommendation letters from recognised experts in the digital technology field who can independently attest to her work and impact.

Based on the information you shared, digital transformation projects on their own do not always carry a lot of weight with the assessors. The key issue is what specific evidence she will provide and how that evidence proves her personal contribution and leadership. For example, how will she demonstrate that she led the project or initiative, rather than being part of a wider delivery team? Independent verification, documented ownership, and measurable outcomes will be important.

It is also important to clarify whether she is positioning herself as a business applicant or a technical applicant, because the narrative and evidence should align clearly with one pathway.

As it stands, the information provided is still quite high level and may not be sufficient for a Global Talent Visa assessment. Another point to consider is that many SAP-related roles can sometimes be classified as service delivery, process delivery, outsourcing, consultancy (technical or management), ERP consultancy, systems administration, and similar functions. These areas are generally not considered eligible fields under the digital technology GTV route.

It would tbe helpful if you could outline the exact evidence she plans to submit under each criterion, and how those documents demonstrate leadership, innovation, or significant impact within a product-led digital technology company. This will make it easier for you to get more precise feedback on the strength of her application

Hey, thanks for sharing the profile. from reading it, the work itself sounds solid, but i think the way it is currently framed may run into some of the common issues tech nation raises in rejections.

the first thing to keep in mind is that tech nation usually distinguishes very clearly between doing your job well and being recognised for it by the wider sector. a lot of what you described (migration programmes, UAT coordination, analytics implementation, defect reduction, etc.) are good professional achievements, but assessors often classify those as expected outputs of the role unless there is external validation.

for the mandatory criteria especially, they are looking for recognition beyond employment. things like internal programme leadership, dashboards, defect metrics, or SLA improvements are usually treated as internal delivery unless they are supported by strong third party evidence. a single letter from a senior manager confirming bug detection improvements may not be enough for MC because they tend to discount colleague letters if they are the main proof of recognition.

on your specific questions:

for the “programme led” framing, it may demonstrate responsibility, but leadership under MC usually needs to show sector recognition, not just internal project leadership. examples that tend to work better are speaking engagements, media recognition, industry awards, judging roles, patents, or widely adopted open source or product work.

regarding the CDS views and embedded analytics, yes that is technical work, but the question tech nation will ask is whether it advanced the field or had impact beyond the company. if it was used internally in the organisation, it will likely be treated as standard enterprise work. it could potentially support OC3 if you can clearly show commercial impact and independent validation.

for the Exceptional Promise route, graduating in 2021 still fits the early career timeline. so from a timeline perspective EP is fine. the bigger challenge will be demonstrating recognition and sector impact, not just role delivery.

overall the profile shows strong professional capability, but to strengthen the application you may want to focus more on evidence that demonstrates external recognition or influence in the digital technology sector, rather than primarily internal programme achievements. right now a lot of the evidence reads like internal project success, which assessors frequently reject as “expected job function”.
