Letter of recomendation from a direct manager

Hello everyone!

I’m planning to include a recommendation letter from my direct manager at my previous job. This person is a recognized industry leader with a strong public track record and is now a VP/C-level executive at a multi-billion dollar company.

The Tech Nation guidelines state that “evidence of recognition, such as reference letters, provided by an immediate colleague, manager, or friend are not sufficient.”
In my view, the recognition and credibility of this person adds significant value and outweighs the fact that we had a direct reporting relationship. But I’m concerned this could raise a “red flag” for my application.

Has anyone here received an endorsement recently with a letter of recommendation from a direct manager?

I’ve seen applications which have received rejections because of getting a manager’s LoR or reference letter. Please avoid doing this!

What were the justifications from the committee for this?

As you correctly identified in your first post, it’s a part of the requirements

Thank you for your advice, Akash. I will choose another person to be on a safer side.
