Length of permission of Visa

If you can afford it, I think you apply for the full length required for your dependents to get ILR. This will save you the coat of paying new visa fee or additional IHS fee if get increased. I applied for 5 years instead of 3 years so my dependent does need to extend. If we didn’t do that we would have paid a new visa fee and increased IHS cost of 66%.

Hi @Francisca_Chiedu,

Thanks for the feedback; that makes a lot of sense, especially considering the economic uncertainty ahead. No one could have predicted the significant increase in the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) fee as of February 2024:

  • New Standard Rate: Increased from £624 to £1,035 per year
  • Children and Dependents: The rate for children under 18, students, and their dependents increased from £470 to £776 per year

For peace of mind, I’ll proceed with a 4-year visa length application to ensure my dependents qualify for ILR along with me.

If one will be paying for the stage two fee again during extension, does it include doing biometrics again, paying visa fee also with the IHS ?

Thank you

Yes you have to pay visa fee and ihs.
