Exceptional Talent Application (Fastrack) as an experienced Product Manager - Request for Review

Hello Everyone,

@Francisca_Chiedu @badesemowo, @pahuja, @AlexBlack @Ndubueze_Precious , @alexnk, @Madhuraj_Mishra, @mahdibeee

Greetings! First of all, I would like to thank you all for having such an engaging and helpful forum. It has been one of the most helpful ways to tailor my application.

Background:

  • I’m an experienced product manager with over a decade of experience in the e-commerce and fintech industry, I have developed strong expertise in product management, applied machine learning, and payments, delivering impactful and innovative solutions.
  • Over the last decade I have worked in Mumbai, San Francisco Bay Area, and most recently in London for almost 1.5 years now.
  • It has been a long journey since I came to know about the Global Talent Visa to this post, but I’m glad I’m finally close to putting in this application.
  • I started my application process in May, however, I decided to wait for Antler’s Founder’s program decision. So I couldn’t complete my Stage 1 application within 15 days which resulted in a refund of the application fee.
  • I just received my acceptance letter for Anter’s September cohort. Yay!

Some of my questions are:

  • How does my application look overall? I would appreciate it if you could give me a quick review of what I put together to know if there’s anything I should add, take out, or combine to make my application stronger. I have collated all the documents and questions listed as I summarize my documents;
  • Three of my LORs are dated the late May, early June 2024. Can I continue with the same LORs or should I ask them to resend new ones?
  • The patents referenced in the application have been in flight for over a year and aren’t available in Google Scholar yet, I have the proof of filing from the company and the reward payments. Is that acceptable?
  • The CEO of the startup, had sent me a scanned copy of the LOR 2 on the company letterhead duly attested with the company seal. Can this be considered or do I need to ask them to re-send it and sign via DocuSign?
  • I have 3 LORs as per the requirements. However, I’m awaiting one additional 4th LOR which would further support my AI/ML product experience. SInce I’m running short on time, I was wondering if I will have the option to upload supporting documents once I submit the application or is it better to get all the documents submitted at once.
  • I have received 2 meritorious academic scholarships from India for my master’s studies abroad, but I couldn’t find the right criteria to mention them and it would be a stretch to include them as OC4. Please let me know if there’s value in mentioning it in the application.

Here is the detailed summary:

Hi @ashwinraog

  • You can use the June LORs till they specifically mention they are written for your GTV application. If you have the option to get new ones, that would be better any day.

  • 50-50: are these patents approved patents from any body?

  • Should work! But again, his signature on company letterhead is better.

  • You cannot upload any more documents after submission.

  • You can mention it in your Personal Statement, it doesn;t count as an evidence towards any criteria.

  • You have listed 3 OCs: you are allowed to select and add evidence only towards 2 OCs. Can you revise and highlight which are the 2 OCs you are applying to along with respective evidence documents?

  • #5 OC1 is about product or digital innovation: how does your acceptance to Antler prove your contribution and impact in an innovation? It seems to talk about how your multiple startup experience has helped you but this is not what the criteria is about. Acceptance to an incubator is only to fast track your application but selection is not a relevant evidence.
You would rather expand on your work in multiple startups and pick innovation or impact stories to suit OC1 or OC3

  • #7: You have only 1 evidence under OC3? This won’t be sufficient. Please split and pick atleast 2 stories + 1 reference letter.

I think you still have some work to do to get you application in good shape.

  1. The third letter of recommendation is not an expert in digital technology.
  2. MC1, you have provided too much information but the evidence listed suggests you have not read the guide properly as CV and personal statement do not count as evidence. Patent application is not the same as having a patent application. If the newsliping does not recognise you then it is of no use. You cant use a recommender for LOR and MC1. Each evidence should fit three pages.

MC2, recommendation letter alone is not sufficient.

Antller acceptance doesn’t prove innovation. Besides you should use two unique evidence

Thanks, @pahuja for the quick response.

  • The patents are still pending with the USPTO. I believe they take roughly between 1 to 3 years to be granted/reflected on the Google Scholars platform.
  • Sorry I should have been more clear there - the LOR is signed in ink and printed on the company letterhead with a seal. I just meant to say it wasn’t signed via DocuSign.
  • Thanks for the feedback on OC1 and OC3. Yes, now that I think about it the narrative in OC1 and OC3 can be combined into one (most probably OC3) - demonstrating my technical and commercial contributions at the current and previous startup, with the proof of innovative products in the market, and their impact. It would also help me show 2 to 3 evidence supporting the criteria & use the Antler acceptance to support the Fastrack request.

Thanks again for these inputs, I truly appreciate it! I’ll rework the application structure based on the feedback and get back soon.

Your MC is good if you have media report.

However, I think you really should read the guidance Re OC.

Your OC1 “Acceptance to Antler UK’s accelerator program” doesn’t mean you innovate, you should change your narrative on how to use these evidence.

OC3 is ok but needs at least 2 evidences.
