Hi everyone, I’m building my Exceptional Promise application (business/marketing profile) and would love blunt feedback from anyone who’s been endorsed, especially non-engineers. I’d rather hear the hard truths here than in a rejection letter.
My profile in short:
Social Media Manager at NYSE-listed cloud (PaaS) company (~1.5 yrs in tech sector by application time). My manager nominated me to the GTM team for the company’s first three AI product launches, and I lead the social strategy for them. Also built the brand’s first TikTok presence.
Visiting Faculty in Digital Marketing at IBA Karachi (Pakistan’s top business school), teaching AI-in-marketing on curriculum I wrote myself.
Chevening Scholar (highest Chevening score in Pakistan that year) MSc Digital Marketing, Loughborough.
Golden Effie + Pakistan Digital Award (Best Social Media Campaign) at my previous company. These were team awards. My name is in the company’s public winners’ posts, and my then-manager wrote me a detailed public LinkedIn recommendation but I have no individual attestation letter for the campaigns.

Has anyone here used a team award with only public credits posts and LinkedIn recommendations as backing no attestation letter? Did assessors accept it, or did it get picked apart?
For marketing profiles: what evidence actually moved the needle for you, and what would you drop in hindsight?
Is ~1.5 years in the tech sector fatal for Promise if the trajectory (Chevening, faculty role, AI product launches) is strong?
Anything above that reads as a red flag I’m not seeing?

Based on the details you have shared, a few things stand out. Exceptional Promise does not require a long number of years in tech, so 1.5 years is not automatically fatal. However, you need to show a clear emerging-leader trajectory within the digital technology sector, with strong evidence of your personal contribution.
For the team awards, public winner announcements and LinkedIn recommendations can support your case, but they are weaker without a clear document confirming your specific role and contribution to the award-winning campaigns. The team awards can, therefore, support the application, but the evidence should clearly establish your individual contribution rather than only showing that the team won. A manager or senior stakeholder confirming your specific role in the award-winning work would make this evidence stronger.
Your AI product launch work and measurable commercial results could be among your strongest evidence, especially if you can clearly show personal ownership and independently verifiable outcomes. Teaching and publications can work well for contributions beyond your occupation, but ensure they demonstrate impact rather than simply holding a faculty position.
Chevening is a strong achievement, but I would be careful about relying on it as standalone evidence for the Mandatory Criterion unless you can clearly connect it to recognition of your potential as a leader in digital technology.
The main area to strengthen is independent recognition and attribution. Focus on building a clear track record of published industry contributions, speaking/workshops, external recognition, and evidence that links results directly to your work.
For the team award, I do have a letter that suggests my individual contribution to the campaign that got us the award, its on the letterhead of the company and its signed by the HOD but its dated (2023) would that still be relevant since I am planning to apply in mid to late 2027. Is there a criteria that the evidences for Exceptional Promise should not be older than 2-3 years? If that is not the case can I use that letter (without the HOD’s CV - I’m not sure if he’d be willing to share that) as my evidence.
Yes, the 2023 letter can still be relevant. However, the overall application should demonstrate that your recognition and trajectory are sufficiently recent and that you are currently showing exceptional potential.
If the letter clearly explains your individual contribution to the award-winning campaign, and your contribution was significant and is supported by other evidence, it can be useful as supporting evidence. It does not need to be accompanied by the HOD’s CV as a separate piece of evidence, but the letter should clearly identify the author, their role, organisation and relationship to your work. If possible, getting the letter updated closer to your application date could strengthen it, but it is not necessarily required.
@Varsha1 Trust you are good. What discipline area are you applying through? Social Media Manager is not a standalone discipline.Also, not an eligible role. It sits under marketing, which Tech Nation classifies within the business pathway. A stronger positioning would be Social Media Marketing Expert, Performance marketing experts or just Sales Expert.
While your profile can support your narrative, the Tech Nation application is an evidence based application. Simply stating "teaching AI‑in‑marketing on a curriculum I wrote myself” will not carry weight unless you provide externally validated or internally validated evidence to support those claims.
Your evidence listing is descriptive and vague, which may be difficult for anyone to give sincere feedback. For instance, “Mandatory = Chevening, IBA appointment, Effie/PDA pack”- what exactly are the pieces of evidence you are submitting here? What were you appointed for? You need to demonstrate national or international recognition for what you did in the sector within the last five years. The same applies to your Optional 1 and Optional 2. Chevening, is it the UK government’s flagship international scholarship programme fully funded one year master’s degrees? This can be okay but this is not a sector recognition. Tech Nation often don’t accept evidence as part of an education programme like MSc.

From my experience, Tech Nation does not accept team awards. In fact, most team based work is dismissed unless the applicant clearly demonstrates ownership. The application is about you.
Anything above that reads as a red flag I’m not seeing?
To be honest, your narrative does not align correctly. You have described evidence without clearly stating what evidence you are actually submitting.
I suggest taking some time to fully understand the Tech Nation guidance or speak with a Tech Nation application consultant who truly understands how the process works. Give yourself time to develop more convincing and properly aligned evidence that will increase your chances.
