Hi there my endorsement application was rejected. Below is one of the reasons and I’m struggling to make sense of it as I feel that it contradicts the guidelines:
The applicant has submitted three mandatory letters of reference. The letters mainly repeat
information already included in the CV and Personal Statement or summarise projects the applicant
worked on. One referee states they observed the applicant across different roles, which makes it
unclear how they could provide detailed insight into the applicant’s individual achievements.
Below is my response to the B part. However I don’t quite know how to respond to the first part.I mean, is it not expected that the details of the reference be consistent with my other evidences?
My Response:
In reference letter 2, paragraph 11, the referee stated that they continued to observe my work closely as my career progressed through direct personal interaction and [redacted] fellowship’s structured alumni tracking system. See his exact statement below…
Please, can anyone help?
@Prince_Uche
So sorry about the rejection. It’s hard to give factual and strategic feedback without seeing the the reference letters, CV, and personal statement. From what you’ve shared, the feedback seems fairly clear. They’re essentially saying that:
-
The reference letters mostly repeated information from your CV and personal statement instead of talking about you as expected from what is listed in the guidance.
-
One referee’s comment about observing you across different roles made it unclear how closely they… Could mean this person does not know you and your work enough to talk about both.
And your quote from the letter is confirming what they said.Instead you want to quote an area that invalidates their claim not support it. That should be a place the person talks about how they know you, for how long, your work and the work you did for or with them.
All the best.

They are simply saying the letters are mostly based on your CV and personal statement. They expect an independent letter based on their experience of your work. Most letters are more personalised not similar.

Please, I don’t understand "more personalised not similar ".

Hi Raphael,
My sincere apologies. I meant no disrespect or anything of that sort.
I was just carried away with making sense of their response.
Thanks a lot for the reply.

@Prince_Uche, my experience with Tech Nation is that they are very subjective, in my opinion.
I applied for Exceptional Promise, but the rejection letter cited Exceptional Talent.
Worst of all, they said they had contacted one of my referees, who said they had not.
