Eligibility Query - Technical Role/Specialism at Consultancy

Dear Tech Nation,

I am advising someone on their Global Talent application and have an eligibility question.

They are an AI/ML engineer with several years of experience at product-led tech companies. They’ve been offered a Gen AI engineering role at a large IT Services and Consultancy firm but she is to work for a Global Bank.

Would working at a consultancy make them ineligible for Global Talent (Exceptional Promise), even if:

  • Their specialism is AI/ML (suitable according to your guidance)
  • They don’t use the consultancy work as evidence
  • Their application is based on previous product-led company employment, community work, and academic achievements

Essentially: Does current employer type matter if the specialism is suitable and that work isn’t used as evidence?

Thank you,

This platform is not managed by tech nation. You can ask the applicant to contact tech nation directly. In any case, if the person have other evidence that are not related to a consultancy, they can use evidence from that period as long as it is within 5 years.
Importantly, evidence is not just about where you work, how do you demonstrate industry recognition and leadership. Sometimes half of your evidence may not come from your day job, speaking at conferences, mentoring, industry awards and the likes are often not related to your day job.

Thanks for your kind feedback Francisca.
