Hi everyone, I’m preparing my Global Talent visa application under the Tech route (Exceptional Promise) and want to get clarity on whether my strongest MC evidence is valid given that it was achieved during my undergraduate studies. I hold MSc in Robotics & AI.
My MC evidence:
All of the following occurred within the last 5 years and are independently verifiable.
-
I won a hackathon organized by the ministry of economy in UAE (Dec 2022). A national 3-day hackathon hosted by the UAE Ministry of Economy. I led the technical development of an AR-powered sustainable tourism app integrating augmented reality and real-time promotions. We were personally awarded by the UAE Minister of Economy himself, in a ceremony that received national newspaper coverage naming me individually and quoting the Minister directly.
-
UAE University Chancellor Honor Award - (Sep 2023). Personally awarded by the University Chancellor in recognition of the national-level innovation and media attention generated by the Ministry of Economy hackathon win. This was an individual award, not a team award.
-
Presenter at GITEX Global 2023 (Oct 2023). I presented my hackathon project at one of the world’s largest tech and innovation expos, presenting to an audience of investors, innovators, and global tech leaders.
-
I won Dubai Metaverse Finance Hackathon (Oct 2023). Issued by the Dubai Department of Finance. I led the technical development of a smart contract solution enabling secure, transparent public-sector financial transactions in the metaverse and was recognised for its innovation and real-world applicability to decentralised government systems.
-
I won INJAZ UAE Innovation Day Camp competition (Dec 2023). Hosted by General Electric. I led the technical concept development of an AI-powered robotic arm system for automated material sorting during building deconstruction, recognised for its innovation and potential to transform waste management in the construction industry.
-
I won Youth United for Sustainability Competition (May 2023). Issued by General Electric. Developed a data-driven strategic energy distribution model aligned with the UAE’s Net Zero 2030 goals, analysed environmental data and logistical constraints to create a realistic emissions reduction roadmap.
-
I won Abu Dhabi Youth Startup Challenge (Feb 2024). Issued by Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority & TechStars. Led development of a subscription-based assistive technology product for neurodivergent children combining therapeutic tools and educational play, judged by a panel of industry mentors and startup founders.
My questions:
-
Does Tech Nation distinguish between achievements made as a student versus as a working professional, or does it purely assess the credibility and independence of the issuing body? Given that my awards were issued by government ministries, multinational corporations, and national organisations - not my university - does the student context reduce their weight?
-
The guide states that MC requires recognised prizes or awards in digital technology from credible third parties. My awards span AI, AR, blockchain, and sustainable technology all within the digital technology sector. Do cross-disciplinary tech awards count, or does Tech Nation expect awards specifically within one defined specialism?
-
The GITEX Global 2023 presentation was a direct personal invitation from the University Chancellor - not a self-submission or open call. I was the only student selected to represent the institution at a world-class international industry event. Does an invitation of this nature count as an invited speaking engagement for MC purposes?
-
Taken together, government ministry awards, national press coverage, a ministerial ceremony, and a GITEX presentation, do you think this meets the MC bar for Exceptional Promise?
I want to be realistic before investing months building a portfolio around evidence that may not be considered valid. Any insight from people who have been through this or assessed similar profiles would be genuinely appreciated.
Thank you.
