I have rcvd my LOR/Ref Letters mostly as wet signed and scanned or Signature inserted using PDF. I have some doubts as follows:
is it mandatory that all letters to be DocuSign/Similar with certificate?
Can i just resend the signed letters to the referees through my Docusign Account and they can sign back, in this case I will be envelope originator but there will be different IP as signing ( so 2 IP’s , originator and signatory )
Is it ok if i use some letters specially which are wet signed as scanned and others as per point 2.
Anyone practical experience in recent time will really help. Experts also please provide inputs. ( I am using 3 LOR and 3 other letters as part of MC/OC story )
This is a very common question. Tech Nation guide (see attached screenshot) and recent applicant experience here suggest that DocuSign (or a similar tool with an audit trail) is the safest option, though it’s not strictly mandatory. What matters most is that the letters are clearly authentic and verifiable.
From my own successful endorsement experience, I had some letters that were initially hand-signed, but to be safe, I also got them DocuSigned and attached the audit certificate showing the referee’s IP and signature. Ideally, the referee should be both the originator and signatory, but being the signatory with a clear audit trail is the key part.
Tech Nation (the endorsing body) explicitly allows DocuSign-like services, recommending inclusion of the document log or certificate to prove the letter originated from and was signed by a different IP address than the applicant—this verifies authenticity without applicant involvement in creation. Multiple recent successes (2024-2025) report using DocuSign without issues, often by referees originating and signing envelopes themselves.
Sending via Your DocuSign
Resending wet-signed letters through your DocuSign account for referees to re-sign is risky and often leads to rejection, as the audit trail shows you as the envelope originator, potentially implying applicant creation even with different signing IPs. Instead, ask referees to create and sign new envelopes from their accounts, then provide you the signed PDF plus certificate/log for upload—this matches Tech Nation’s guidance and successful cases.
Mixing Letter Types
Using a mix (e.g., some wet-scanned, others DocuSigned) is generally fine, as long as all are properly signed, dated, and credible—no official rule prohibits it, and experiences confirm approvals with varied formats. For your 3 LORs and 3 additional MC/OC story letters (treated as optional references or evidence), prioritize referee-originated digital trails where possible to strengthen authenticity, especially post-2025 Tech Nation updates emphasizing proof of non-applicant origin
Thanks Suyash, you mentioned to be on safe side you got them DocuSigned as well. Did you created envelope and got an additional, as I am also planning to do that, it will show me as originator but there will 2 different Ip and a certificate to show that. your confirmation on the process will be helpful.
Yes, I was the originator and they just signed however in forums I’ve seen a few posts where TechNation did not respond to that positively, it’s a bit risky to be honest. If you can have them upload document and sign it as well is ideal.
