Difference between recommendation and reference

hi all - I’ve read through the TN requirements a few times and need help understanding how/if a reference letter can be used as evidence rather than as one of my 3 required notes.

Specifically:

“You led the growth of a product-led digital technology company, product or team inside a digital technology company, as evidenced by reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your work, or as evidenced by news clippings, lines of code from public repos or similar evidence.”

Is this in addition to your 3 reference letters or do these letters also count as a piece of evidence?

The reference letters are mostly used to support the mandatory or optional criteria. It is difference from the three recommendation letter. For evidemce of impact, Tech Nation specially stated that the reference letter from your employer must be different from the three recomnendation letters.

Thanks Francisca - your comments on other posts have been helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to support this community.

To confirm, 3 letters of recommendation to meet this part of the application packet

I can then use 1 additional reference letter from my employer to serve as 1 of 10 pieces of evidence. (Can it be a direct manager if this is a senior person in the org?)

thanks again

Yes additional reference can be used as proof of impact (Optional Criteria 3). You can use a senior member of the organisation.

Thank you! I’ve worked as a chief of staff to our head (SVP) of europe but this person was my direct manager. Does this make them ineligible to write my reference?

I would avoid using a direct manager.

Hi @Francisca_Chiedu, adding to this question, I understand the letters of recommendation can be up to 3 single sides of A4 paper, but what about the reference letters? Couldn’t find any guidance on this.

Generally all evidence must not exceed 3pages
