Counting days after arrival

Hey All,

Small question.

E.g. i get a global promise visa with duration of 5 years.
After getting this visa I have 3 months to get to UK.

As soon as I am in UK my time starts counting towards ILR.

At the end of my visa term then I will be at 4 years 9 months, which does not meet ILR requirements.

I wanted to ask how does this time start counting?

Can I get the visa go to UK get a stamp or something that makes my time in UK start counting? and come back pack my stuff and move with everything? because I will have to rent a house and everything and it will be hard to do that straight away after getting a visa.

How do you guys manage it?

Hey @Sharma.shray. This is quite common. Your time for ILR counts from when you first enter the UK on your visa - it’s just the entry stamp at the border that matters, not the visa issue date.

You can totally do a quick trip to the UK to start your clock, then head back to sort out your move properly. Loads of people do this! Just keep your boarding pass as proof.

So yeah, pop over for a few days if you want, get that all-important first entry stamp, then take your time organizing everything back home. No need to rush the actual move. The immigration folks are used to this - they know people need time to properly relocate!

Just make sure to keep evidence of that first trip and you’re sorted. :+1:

thank you for that, it really helps.
so basically i need to do that quick trip if I want an ILR after my GTV expires, otherwise I wont complete the 5 year requirement right?

Pls how does this apply if I am moving with my family?

I’ll appreciate your response?
