Clarifications needed - Exceptional Talent

Hello everyone,

Please I do have some questions for anyone who has been endorsed for ET:

  1. When using the evidence showing high salary, under the MC category, should it be situated based on global standards (international) or based on local standards? this is because a high salary in a country (with the country’s local currency) where one works especially in places like Africa might not be considered high enough when compared to international markets

Also, does including this reduce one’s chance of an endorsement especially where one has satisfactorily met other criteria? i.e if one is in doubt of how the evidence of high salary will be assessed, will it be smart to leave out of the evidence pack so it does not negatively impact the overall application?

  1. Can a referee’s LinkedIn (link) pass for a CV?

  2. Must you attach a log file even when the letter from a referee authenticates that the letter originated from the referee? Are there cases where the log file or files have been omitted but an applicant still got endorsed?

I’d appreciate as much responses as possible. Thank you in anticipation.

Hi @Harieson

If your MC is strong without the salary evidence, best to skip it. High salary proof is anyway not a strong evidence and insufficient per guidelines. Always better to avoid reasons to flag if rest of the evidences are sufficient.

You can provide LinkedIn instead of CV: ensure their Linkedins are updated and clearly reflect their long standing tech careers to be considered experts in digital technology.

Yes please attach log file.

Just as you rightly said, a high salary is relative to factors such as company size, location, sector, and even the country. The TN emphasis could be either international or national, as the case may be. While your MC appears to be strong, no set of evidence can be considered too strong, every potential piece of evidence contributes to the overall application narrative and enhances credibility.

So, go ahead and state that you earn a high salary nationally. Convert your earnings to USD or GBP, include your payslip, and use Glassdoor to show the salary scale for your location. You can also include the Payscale average salary for your role, comparing it with what you earn. The fact that you earn a high salary nationally already makes a strong statement about your value.

Can a referee’s LinkedIn profile (link) serve as a CV?

I’ve noticed that applicants often use LOR and reference letter interchangeably. While there’s no strict guideline on how a reference letter should be written, unlike the LOR I would advise you to treat it similarly to some extent. For instance:

  1. Add the referee’s LinkedIn link.
  2. Use their CV or export their LinkedIn profile as a PDF.
  3. Include the log file to add another layer of credibility and authenticity.

Since there is no limit to number of pages for letters, all of these may fall within 4 pages, but then, you have added all that may be required.

So, you will have the letter with the LinkedIn link, the CV or exported LinkedIn profile, and finally the log file.

The idea is simple: do everything morally right within your means to increase your chances.

All the best.

@Raphael is Docusign required for reference letters now or just the three main letters of recommendation?

@Reezy Not specifically stated for reference letters but LORs, yes.

All the best.

Hi @Raphael This was detailed. Thanks so much for taking the time. I do appreciate.

Please I have 2 follow-up questions albeit different I think:

  1. I think I used to see on Tech Nation’s guidelines that the word count for personal statement is 1000. Looks to me like it has been removed. Is there no longer a word-limit for personal statement?

  2. @Raphael in your response, I noticed you did say there is no limit to the number of pages for letters and that a letter may be 4 pages. I found that new and had to check the guidelines because I was under the impression that the page limit for all letters (LOR and reference letters) was 3 pages. Any idea if this is part of the last update made in August? - asking because this is not stated in the updated guidelines. Checked and didnt see it except I have missed it.

I’d appreciate all responses to help clarify this.

Hi @Harieson

  1. Personal statement word limit has been removed from tn guide, however, while submitting in home office website theres a limit of 7000 character ij the input box which is equivalent to 1000-1200 words. Id stick to the 1000 words.

  2. Letters shouldnt exceed 3 pages (excluding their signature, cv, audit trail). So the main content should be within the 3 pages.

Cheers

My statement was as regards what I said earlier on reference letters not LOR

While there’s no strict guideline on how a reference letter should be written

For the LOR, upto 3 single pages of A4 papers, that excludes the the author’s CV and what have we. So, technically you can have 3 pages for the letter + author’s CV pages + audit trail

Be up to 3 single sides of A4 paper, excluding the author’s credentials and contact details
