Applying for Promise as a Software Engineer

I have over 5 years work experience in digital technology companies. I’m a bit skeptical with the requirements for Exceptional Talent, so I’m thinking of applying for Exceptional Promise.

I need help on how to fit in some of my work under Mandatory and Optional criteria:

Mandatory:
“show they have been recognised as having potential to be a leading talent in the digital technology field”

Optional:

  • at least 1 example of innovation as a founder of a product led digital technology company or as an employee working on a new digital field or concept
  • at least 1 example of proof of recognition for work beyond the applicant’s occupation that contributes to the advancement of the field
  • at least 1 example of significant technical, commercial or entrepreneurial contributions to the field as a founder or employee of a product-led digital technology company
  • at least 1 example of exceptional ability in the field by academic contributions through research endorsed by an expert.

Below is the list of projects I’ve worked on:

  1. A rule-based fraud monitoring application I developed for the last company I worked with to monitor transactions and detect fraudulent patterns. Before this, the company had no such tool, the process was manual. This implementation saved the company from spending millions to purchase monitor tool. I can easily request a reference letter highlighting my contributions from someone at the management level.
  2. I also developed a Transaction Reconciliation and Settlement application for Internal Audit Department , which automated a manual process that usually took about 4-5 hours, and reduced it to 15-30 mins. I can get a reference letter from the department also, explaining my contributions.

Where I currently work, I’ve been part of 2 - 3 apps with many users, also web portal for clients.

The question is,

  1. which of these can I use under mandatory and optional criteria.
  2. What can I extract from all these to prepare my evidence documents.
  3. Can I use screenshots, links in my evidence.

Which of your evidence show you are a leader or potential leader in your sector. You have to read the tech nation guide and see examples of listed evidence for each of the criteria. You can’t outsource reading the guide to this forum.

“You led the growth of a product-led digital technology company, product or team inside a digital technology company, as evidenced by reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your work, or as evidenced by news clippings, lines of code from public repos or similar evidence.”

  • As a Team Lead, I led a small team to build a product that is being used currently, can I use screenshots of lines of code reviews / approvals from repos, company organogram, team lead meeting and similar evidence to prove I’m a potential leader in my sector?

“Outside of your normal day-to-day job role, you led or were a significant contributor to a substantial open source project, as evidenced from compilation of code commit summaries, repo stars or similar metrics such as download statistics, where possible.”

  • I have many projects on github also - mostly programming projects to solve some specific issues in different programming languages.

“You have held or hold a significant expert role participating on panels, or individually, assessing the work of others in the same field or a field of specialisation related to the digital technology sector.”"

  • How about evidence of interview sessions with job seekers?

Does your name appear in the repo? Is it clear you made the commits? Are you getting a reference letter to confirm your significant input on product development?

I am not sure how participating in a job interview meets this requirement. How do you intend to provide an evidence for this?

Are these are your documents? Who do you plan to meet the mandatory criterion?
