Application for Stage 1

Dear All,

I hope you’re doing well.

I am currently preparing to apply for a Tech Nation Global Talent visa endorsement under the Digital Technology route. However, I find the process somewhat complex and would greatly appreciate your advice—particularly on how to structure my application and what to include in each supporting document.

To give some context, here is a summary of my background, achievements, and skillset:

Academic & Research Background

PhD in Statistics – awarded by a UK university in 2015

MSc and BSc in Mathematics – obtained outside the UK

Lecturer and Researcher – at a university in a middle-income country (2017–Dec 2024)

Research Output:

12 peer-reviewed publications, including:

4 papers in Scopus Q1 journals

Total citation count: 20

Peer Review Activities:

Reviewed 8 manuscripts for two IOP Q1 journals

Reviewed 9 additional papers for a Q3 local journal

Entrepreneurial & Technical Profile

Founder – of a London-based company (registered March 2025), operating in:

Software development

AI and data science

Scientific research and analytics

Technical Skills:

Programming: Python, R, SQL, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Linux

Frameworks: Flask, Django, NGINX

DevOps/Cloud: AWS (Route 53, EC2, S3, Lambda, CloudFront, SES, ALB, WAF, etc.)

UX/UI Design & Web App Development

Proven through active GitHub repositories and two deployed platforms that integrate statistical modeling with explainable AI (XAI)

Also built a full HRM platform using Django

Public Speaking:

Gave a talk at a local conference in 2020

I Need Your Guidance On:

Whether this profile is strong enough for endorsement, particularly under the Exceptional Talent or Promise route

Recommendations for the:

Mandatory criteria (how to best demonstrate recognition)

Optional criteria (what to select and how to evidence it)

A brief outline of what to include in each of the 15 supporting documents, so I can begin drafting them effectively

Any advice or insights—especially from those with successful Tech Nation applications—would be immensely appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your help and support.

Best regards,

Hi @Fadhaa_Ali It will help people here to give feedback if you can share an outline of your 10 evidences across the 3 criteria. Refer here for the official TN guidelines to help you frame an outline: Notion

If you need help in application outline mapping itself then feel free to reach out to a consultant - I do offer professional services for the same as well, feel free to DM if you need to enrol with a consultant.

Your profile shows strong potential for the Global Talent visa, particularly under the Exceptional Promise route. With your PhD from a UK university, 12 peer-reviewed publications, and founding a London-based tech company, you have solid academic credentials combined with entrepreneurial experience. I’ve seen similar profiles succeed, especially when they effectively bridge academic research with practical digital technology applications.

Focus your application on OC3 (technical contributions as an employee/founder) and OC4 (academic contributions) as your two optional criteria. Your publications in Q1 journals and peer review activities provide strong evidence for OC4, while your company founding and deployed AI platforms support OC3. For mandatory criteria, highlight your high-level technical skills and the recognition through your publications - avoid using self-published content like Medium articles as these are explicitly mentioned as insufficient in recent guidance.

Structure your 10 pieces of evidence strategically with 2-3 documents per criterion. Include employment contracts or founder documentation, publication screenshots with citation counts, and evidence of your platforms’ impact. Remember each document can only be used for one criterion and must be under 3 pages. Your combination of academic rigor and practical tech application positions you well, but ensure every piece of evidence clearly demonstrates impact beyond routine academic work.

Hi Akash,

Thank you for your informative response. I have been leaning toward selecting OC4 and OC3; however, after reviewing the detailed guidance for OC3, I came across the following statement:

“Please note that the term ‘significant contribution’ in this criteria requires you to demonstrate impact, not necessarily innovation. This is different from Optional Criteria 1 where you are required to demonstrate high levels of innovation, not necessarily impact. If these are your chosen criteria then your evidence should clearly demonstrate this differentiation. Submitting the same evidence for both criteria may not be sufficient if it does not meet these different requirements.”

My concern is that my level of impact and recognition might currently be too limited to fully satisfy the OC3 requirements.

I would like your thoughts on OC1. The platforms I have developed demonstrate a strong level of innovation, and since OC1 does not require proof of impact, I could focus on highlighting the innovative aspects of my work. However, I do not hold patents or intellectual property rights for these platforms.

Do you think OC1 would be a better option for my case compared to OC3?

Your advices are much appreciated

I think you misunderstand the requirements of OC1. Based on the rejections I’ve seen, it’s strongly recommended to have a patent, or be a founder, to be applicable for OC1. Additionally, you do, in fact, need to showcase significant impact there as well. A side project, for example, wouldn’t be considered as strong enough evidence for OC1.

Hence I suggest reassessing your evidences and sticking to OC3, if those sets of evidences were done while employed for a product-led digital tech company.
