I am seeking clarification on whether recommenders must have detailed knowledge of an applicant’s work for 12 months, specific to the Global Talent Visa – Exceptional Promise route.
I would like to provide some context. I am the inventor/co-inventor on two UK patent applications, both of which are currently under examination. My professional relationship with my Lead Advisor (who has supported my innovation and patenting work) started about nine months ago. During that time, he has worked with me on my innovation, the technical part, and drafting the patent applications.
Considering my innovations are recent and actively developing, I would like to know if:
• a single recommendation letter that is based on nine months of direct and substantial professional knowledge would be deemed sufficient, or
• Is it the policy that I must wait until a complete 12 months have gone by before I can submit my endorsement application?
I appreciate your assistance in helping me determine whether the quality and depth of knowledge can supersede the period of time, especially when the work is recent, innovative and developing.
I appreciate your help. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
Tech Nation is very clear on this, that each of your three recommendation letters must come from well established experts in digital technology who have detailed professional knowledge of your work for at least 12 months.
This means that a recommender with only nine months of experience working with you would not meet that requirement, even if the work has been substantial or innovative. You wouldn’t need to wait to apply though, as you can get another person, but that specific recommender cannot be used until the 12 month threshold is met.
@s.lamba Get your letters of recommendation prepared and have them ready in 3 months. It should likely also be signed after stating that they have known you for 12 months. It’s not only about applying but also about when they write and sign after knowing you for 12 months. If they write after knowing you for 10 months but you apply after clearing the 12-month threshold, it still shows that at the time of the writing, it was 10 months. So do that to make your application safer and give you peace of mind.
This is a strict requirement. As at the time the recommender is writing, they must have known you for 12 months. Even the details of the letter will further suggests they barely know you.
