MC 2 (Document 2): Winner of the ICT4Inclusion Challenge by Atos and GIZ 2021.

  1. ICT4 Inclusion Challenge by Atos and GIZ (2021)

On January 11, 2022, I led the Vinsighte team as a Senior Product Manager to be selected for the ICT4 Inclusion Challenge 2021 organized by Atos and GIZ. This award, which came with a cash prize of 6500 Euros recognizes our contribution to improving the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals in Nigeria through the use of digital technology.

Our solution know as Visis AI was selected for its use of artificial intelligence technology to solve the problem of lack of inclusive education and challenges the visually impaired face with reading books and getting access to quality education independently. With the use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Text-to-Speech technology, Visis aids a blind and visually impaired user to read books, and navigate their environment independently. This functionality not only promotes independence for the user, but also opens up educational opportunities for them.

Winning the ICT4 Inclusion Challenge served as a testament to the importance of our work, and through the program, we were able to have access to networks of mentors, and accessibility experts. In addition, the program’s support extended beyond the financial aid we received, we had access to a three months’ mentorship program where we received business mentorship, technical guidance, and opportunities to refine our product. This experience helped us to redefine models of our solution, and scale its impact.

OC1 (Document 5):

Evidence of Product in the market:

  • As the Co-CEO of Vinsighte, I have successfully led the team in getting the company’s product to market. The product known as Visis is an artificial intelligence assistive reading solution that aids the blind, and persons living with ADHD and dyslexia to read books independently and conveniently. It works by scanning texts of books, and converting these texts to audio output for the user to listen to. Visis is an OCR and Fast Text-To- speech app that speaks out the visual world for anyone with low vision, visual impairments, reading difficulties, or blindness, thereby allowing the blind and visually impaired to live more independent lives.

Visis was developed for, and together with communities for persons with disabilities. Simply open the app, and point the camera of your phone to any text and Visis’ smart Artificial Intelligence and Optical Character Recognition technology will read it aloud to you. The app is simple, gets things done, and brings the best assistive experience to blind, and low vision users.

Significant contribution towards commercial success of Vinsighte:

  • Below are key contributions that demonstrate my impact on Vinsighte’s commercial success:
  1. Developed Customer profile for Vinsighte

I developed a detailed customer profile for Vinsighte, which has helped us to better understand our target audience, their needs, frustrations, and expectations. This customer insight has enabled the company to design and develop our product which directly addresses the pain points of visually impaired persons across Nigeria, ensuring our solution is both relevant and impactful.

Vinsighte Customer Profile:
Visually impaired persons: One of our user segments are visually impaired and blind persons, especially the visually impaired and blind of school age, and in schools for the blind across Nigeria. As a result of my interactions with these user segments as the Project and Programs manager when I joined Vinsighte, I was able to deduce that the majority of them find it stressful to use braille technology and other traditional reading technology for the blind. As a result, I was able to clearly define the needs of visually impaired persons and their frustration. This has helped the company to understand how best to tailor Visis to serve these needs of reading books more seamlessly and independently.

[See below, a link to the full customer profile and pictures of the customer profile.]

  1. Company Go-To Market Strategy.

I led the development of Vinsighte’s Go-To-Market Strategy, which outlined our approach to penetrating the EdTech market, especially through partnerships with schools, and institutions for the blind, and persons living with ADHD and dyslexia. This strategy document has helped us to tailor our marketing, sales, and customer engagement efforts, and to secure strategic partnerships, and increase our product’s visibility.

[See below, a link to the go-to- market strategy document, and a picture excerpt from the document.]

  1. Sales leads generated and B2B customer partnerships achieved:

As part of my contribution to the company’s commercial success, I developed Vinsighte’s sales pipeline by generating B2B leads (partnerships with schools, and institutions for the blind. This has led to partnerships with various schools, institutions, and organizations for the visually impaired in Nigeria. In addition, these partnerships have resulted in increased adoption of our assistive reading technology software; Visis AI, and contributed to the company’s revenue growth.
