Review Request for Exceptional Promise Application - Product Manager

Hello everyone! Thank you for the lovely work you do on here. Today, I humbly request your valuable insights on my application.

I am a product manager with 4+ years of experience, and I am applying for the promise route. Kindly review my evidence listed below:

REC LETTERS:

  • LOR 1: CEO of Company A, where I built product C and took it from 0 - 1 and onboarded multiple clients.
  • LOR 2: CEO of non-profit where I volunteered for several years
  • LOR 3: Mentor who is a thought leader in product management and runs an NGO for women in STEM.

MC

  • Company 1: Evidence showing how I was able to grow transaction volume of product A by XX%, within 3 months of joining the organization. Worked on additional features that increased revenue MoM of product A. I also made changes to product B leading to an increase in trans vol. within 3 months. Screenshots of chats and dashboards have been attached as proof. (I worked on 2 products at this org., still work here)
  • Growth of non-profit: I volunteered at a non-profit and organized 30+ events and grew the community by 400% I attached screenshots from events held, feedback from participants and email from founder.
  • Speaking Event: I was part of an event with over 2500+ attendees. I attached screenshots of the flyer and a link to the Youtube live stream. Same doc also contains a second speaking event and lastly another speaking event from Jan this year. All events date as far back as 2021.
  • Recognition: I was part of a team that participated in a hackathon for Product Managers. My team came 5th in the hackathon. I attached screenshots showing my participation and news clippings showing my team’s position, and also screenshots of the work we did that got us 5th place. (P.S: I am a bit skeptical about this as it was a group work kinda and not only me)

OC2:

  • Mentorship: I included screenshots of a BootCamp I organized where I trained 50+ women. Screenshots of the curriculum, feedback from the participants, link to the medium article from one of the participants, and lastly, a detailed notion document which acts as a study guide for product managers. I added the user traffic to the notion guide in the past year, a link to the guide, and screenshots of pages within the guide.
  • Volunteering: screenshots of a webinar with 50+ attendees, then a boot camp with a selection criteria, where I taught showing snapshots from slack messages, curriculum, and feedback from participants. Lastly, I included images from a conversation with a mentee, her pitch to me on LinkedIn to become my mentee, screenshots showing the assessments I gave her and screenshots showing when she received a job offer in less than 6 months of my tutelage.

OC3

  • Product C: This doc shows my contribution to the product. screenshots of my discussion with the team where I proposed multiple features which were later implemented. Screenshots of the products dashboard too.
  • Product D and E: I worked on two products on this role but product D was brief so I added few metrics to my achievements. I went deep into product E. Screenshots showing my research process, dashboards showing growth of trans volume and revenue at different intervals, impact of initiatives I suggested, PRD showing my name as the author and few conversations showing I led the overall transformation of the product taking it to where it is today.
  • Letter of reference for D and E: A letter of reference from my manager for D and E corroborating everything I had written in my evidence and adding some feedback on my overall experience/character/thought process. Manager is a recognized expert in the industry with over 10+ years of experience.
  • Product E: A separate document detailing an initiative done on product E which led to the growth in transaction volume. I also added links to news clippings where this was mentioned. I ensured to state my direct impact during the execution of this initiative and how my input was critical to the overall success.

Questions:

  • I have 11 pieces of evidence; I am considering having 4 in OC3 and 3 in MC as I think the group work in my MC may make that section weak. What are your thoughts on this please?
  • I don’t have a reference letter speaking to Company 1, however the screenshots attached were very detailed, showing my direct impact and the growth of the products. Will this be an issue? I am skeptical about getting a letter as this is my current org and I’ve only been here for 6 months.
  • One of my recommendation letters was not signed via Docusign. Would this be an issue, I have been chasing this person for 2 months+ and requested they just sign it so I can submit this February.
  • For the products where I grew the transaction volume and revenue, do I have to state the value in GBP too?
  • What are your thoughts on the overall structure of the evidence? Is there any other thing you think I can do/add to give myself a good shot at success?

I’d really appreciate your feedback on this @Akash_Joshi @Francisca_Chiedu @pahuja @alexnk @May @hsafra

Hi @Dahlia

Your set is good!
Few comments:

  • MC1: ensure it’s also linked to how this contributed to advancement of field. What’s the validation to your self-claims in this one? Do the screenshots etc mention your name?
  • Is the NGO work related to digital?
  • were the speaking events leading tech events?
  • can you get a letter for the teams contribution that highlights your contribution significantly and not position it as a team work because it will be flagged

OC2

  • Is the mentorship part of a structured program? Was there a selection of mentees?

OC3

  • the product C seems to be only self claims. What is the validation of these?

Hello @pahuja,

Thank you for your feedback.

  • MC1: ensure it’s also linked to how this contributed to advancement of field. What’s the validation to your self-claims in this one? Do the screenshots etc mention your name? I have a lot of evidence validating this, the screenshots show my name and dashboard showing growth. There are also conversations with teammates talking about the growth of the initiatives I worked on and the impact I had on them.
  • Is the NGO work related to digital? Yes, its focused on women in STEM with over 60k members
  • were the speaking events leading tech events? Yes they were
  • can you get a letter for the teams contribution that highlights your contribution significantly and not position it as a team work because it will be flagged - Getting a letter may not be possible, hence the reason why I am skeptical about it.

OC2

  • Is the mentorship part of a structured program? Was there a selection of mentees? Yes there was a selection criteria for the mentorship and I stated this in the document.

OC3

  • the product C seems to be only self claims. What is the validation of these? Recommendation Letter 1 is the CEO and he corroborates my claims about product C in the letter.

Your evidence structure looks strong for a Promise route application. The mandatory criteria section could be strengthened by focusing on your direct impact at Company 1 and the non-profit growth evidence. The hackathon achievement might be better suited as supplementary evidence rather than a main piece.

For OC3, having 4 pieces of evidence makes sense since you have strong product impact documentation. The screenshots and metrics from Products D and E demonstrate clear ownership and measurable results. Converting financial figures to GBP would help the assessors better understand your impact. Not having a reference letter from Company 1 isn’t a major concern since you have detailed screenshots and metrics showing direct impact. However, for the unsigned recommendation letter, you should try to get a signed version before submission - either digital or physical signature is fine.

Consider consolidating your speaking events into a single, stronger piece of evidence to stay within the 10-document limit. This would give you more flexibility to include additional product impact evidence. For currency conversions, include both original currency and GBP values with the exchange rate used. This helps assessors understand the scale of your achievements in the UK context.

Dear @Akash_Joshi,

Thank you so much for the feedback.

I will update all figures to reflect the equivalent in GBP and modify the other documents as stated.
