Recommendation vs. Reference Letters

Hi all,

According to the Tech Nation Visa Guide, the three letters of recommendation must:

  1. Be from “experts in the digital technology field.”
  2. Specifically be “about the Global Talent application”. “you cannot use a letter that was written for another reason”.

My question is about reference letters. By “reference letters,” I mean letters from clients or customers attesting to my work and its impact.

Do the same conditions apply to reference letters? Specifically:

  • Must reference letters also be written by experts in the digital technology field, even if they come from my clients (e.g., a company CEO who may not be a tech expert)?
  • Must they explicitly “be about the Global Talent application”?

I’d appreciate any insights on this.

Thanks!

No, they should be from established people in Digital Technology field as mentioned in official guidelines.

Yes.

Thank you, Akash_Joshi.

But again, if I want to provide something attesting to the impact of my work—issued by my client or customer, whatever you call it—other than a recommendation letter with its conditions, does it still need to follow the same conditions as a recommendation letter?

By providing such a document- which I call it a reference letter- I ask my client or customer to attest that they have purchased my software.

Yes, it has to ideally follow the same rules.

LORs mandatorily need to be from digital tech experts. As much as possible even reference letters however if you want to attach a strong ref letter from a non-tech client, it is ok as long as the letter mentions how your product/contribution made an impact on them that can be qualified as a tech impact.

Thank you, dear pahuja,

As always, your kind response is immensely helpful.

Now, let’s assume I need someone from a non-tech client to attest the financial impact of my product or contribution. In this context, who would Tech Nation prefer for such an attestation - the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) or the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)?

I truly appreciate any guidance you can provide.

There’s no such preference bias. Pick the one who can talk deeply about your role and impact of it.
