Hi Friendly Folks,
In terms of my future plans, I actually have various options I would like to explore. How concrete do my plans need to be about what my planned occupation in the UK will be AND how will the UK digital technology sector benefit from your work? i.e. looking at several pathways to do this.
- Can I share that I want to open my own company in X years OR
- AND/OR Explore opening a start up accelerator targeting a particular start up ecosystem?
- AND in the meantime get to understand the market across XYZ.
THEN in the short term I’m applying to working to work in X type startup? [Which I’m currently applying to etc.]
Second and unrelated I applied to Stage 1 on the Gov.uk website AND received this email referencing completing the application for endorsement. What are they referring to? I want to make sure I don’t forget any steps given.
THANK YOU in advance.
It appears that you have done the opposite of what you said that you have done.
The screenshot that you have provided suggests that you started out on Tech Nation’s site rather than from the UK GOV page.
This is how you should proceed:
-
Apply for Stage 1 on UK GOV with this use this.
-
Once step 1 is completed, Goto TN Smart Apply. In your case, it seems that you have already started this, so you login and update the required details according to the numbers provided on the final application submitted from step. The step is the Stage 1 application for endorsement.
-
Complete Step 2 by filling out the application therein accordingly and uploading all your support document then submit.
-
Wait for the outcome of your endorsement application.
-
You get an email from the UK Home Office about the outcome of your endorsement application. If successful, you’d get instructions on how to proceed (Here: from inside the UK. And here, if you are outside the uk). Otherwise, the reasons for the rejection (appeal is possible or resubmission which means going over Steps 1 to 5 again).
=========================================================================
Regarding your future plans, I believe you have the freedom to share as much plans a possible. I don’t think that you would be able to make it a proper SMART document though:wink:, considering the limit on word count. But more importantly, your personal statement is another chance to showcase “YOU” as a person while linking it to your so-called future plans.
According to TN’s guide, it reads in part regarding Personal Statement:
The statement should be relevant and consistent to the rest of your application, including answers to the following questions and any other information you deem relevant:
- Why do you want to come to the UK?
- What is your planned occupation in the UK?
- Which region or city of the UK are you planning to live in?
- How will the UK digital technology sector benefit from your work? (Examples of this might include the technological advances you will bring, the creation or new markets, the planned growth of a digital technology company, the activities you will take part in outside of your direct occupation.)
I have highlighted the key clause there.
I hope this helps.

Thank you for the quick and detailed response! @ask4jubad
RE: How I should proceed
I actually did follow those steps and I’m now on Step 2 after submitting stage one (see attachment), hence why I’m confused by the email. Should I just disregard it? I don’t even think you can apply to TN without having the application # and payment code.
RE: Personal statement
SOOOO helpful, thank you!
Great the. You are on track.
You can disregard the email. It’s really like an FYI email.
You get another email from TN once you complete your endorsement application and that’s all until the application decision comes.
You don’t need to start the Stage 2 yet.
