Open source contribution as OC3

Hi everyone, I need clarity here and your response would be highly appreciated.
In OC3, can I use an open source contribution here as an evidence? And do I need to be an employee of the open source organization? Also, what do they mean by “… acknowledged by peers” here: Starting or contributing to open source projects in a way that has been acknowledged by peers as advancing the field;

For OC3, you need to be an employee of the organisation.
