Need help with the review please (Exceptional Promise)

Hi Everyone,

Hope you’re doing.
I’m in need of your suggestions and advice. Will be applying by the end of next week. I did MSc Machine Learning and Deep Learning in the UK.

Mandatory criteria

#MC1: You led the growth of a non-profit organisation or social enterprise with a specific focus on the digital technology sector, as evidenced by reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your work, or as evidenced by news clippings or similar evidence.

  • News posted by the University for winning an International AI competition in 2023.

#MC2: You have received nationally or internationally recognised prizes or awards for excellence specifically in the digital technology sector, as evidenced by the award itself, reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your achievement, or as evidenced by news clippings or similar evidence.
- Article from one of our sponsors about winning the award in the AI Event.
- Same story but published by the Norway’s news agency.

#MC3 : Published material in professional or major trade publications or major media about the applicant related to the applicant’s work in the digital technology sector. You must include the title, date and evidence that you are the author of such published material and any necessary translation.
- Published a paper in the “Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovative Research”.
- A Technical Report published at the University in the UK.

#MC4: You have held or hold a significant expert role participating on panels, or individually, assessing the work of others in the same field or a field of specialisation related to the digital technology sector.
- Working as a Technical Skills Coach, assessing my learners portfolio on their Knowledge Skills and Behavior for Level 7 Apprenticeship in collaboration. How could I provide evidence? The LOR will be discussing about it.

Optional Criteria

#OP1: Evidence of employment contract with salary information including any bonus and equity options and history of earnings.
- Will share my Signed Employment Contract.

#OP2: Talks or conference speaking that have had a significant viewership. Conferences must be widely regarded as sector-leading events for your field with at least 100 attendees (not registrations). As a speaker you must be speaking on the main stage and the invitation to speak must not have been paid for by your organisation as part of any sponsorship. Leading a workshop or running a session at a conference is not sufficient. Evidence should include your speech with either a link to the video of you speaking, the programme of events displaying your talk or a reference letter from the conference organiser with explanation of why you were asked to speak.
- Delivered session on Machine Learning and Tableau with Level 6 individuals. It had more than 116 attendees. Will be sharing the One Drive link to the video (2 Hour).

#OP3: Evidence of mentorship must be for activity outside the applicant’s organisation or normal course of work duties and excludes mentorship of other commercial organisations as part of a commercial arrangement. Mentorship should be on behalf of a structured programme with selection criteria and is inclusive of non-profit charities and social mentorship programmes. You must be able to demonstrate a consistent track record of mentoring and have received recognition for your personal contribution. Mentoring at a university or a single startup is not sufficient. When mentoring alongside other mentors (for example at a top-tier accelerator) you must have been a senior mentor that may be evidenced through a letter of reference from the programme. Note that simply training a colleague, providing general support or advice, or advising at a company of someone you know is not considered to meet the definition of mentorship.
- Presentation on Raspberry PI outside my work. Will be sharing the post from Society’s Instagram.
- Can provide the slide deck.

#OP4: Letter from an employer wherever applicable. This is in addition to the required letters of endorsement and should be written by another individual;
- Letter from the company’s HR Department in the UK confirming my role and my impact within.

Letter of Recommendation:

#LOR1 Head of Technology from a Tech Company in the UK.

#LOR2 Head of Architecture from a FinTech Company in the UK.

#LOR3 Senior Developer at Aerospace and Aviation Company in the UK.

#LOR4 Senior Lecturer and Course Director for Machine Learning and Deep Learning at the University in the UK.

Whose LORs would you suggest me to upload?
Thank you so much.

Regards,
Nilesh Ohol

Hi @nileshredz

MC1: how does winning an award demonstrate leading growth of an NGO in digital tech?

MC2: does the news mention your name? Is the awarding body internationally recognize?

MC4: any snapshots of panels, reviews? Invite letter or appreciation letter inviting you and recognizing your contribution as a panel judge?

Your optional criterias are weak. You are providing salary and contract information in two documents which are not sufficient. Apart from that you just have two more and that also don’t seem very significant as the mentorship has to be part of a structured program with selection criteria.

It is also unclear which 2 OCs are you attempting?

LOR profile selection is basis someone who will qualify as an expert in digital technology. The quality and depth of LORs also matters a lot.

Hi Pahuja,

Thanks for your response.
MC1 - I’m a member of Marine Robotics Society at the University. We had a project called Strathvoyger, So I lead the Machine Vision Team and contributed to some bits of Sensor Fusion to build an ASV (Autonomous Surface Vessel).
MC2 - The evidence for MC1 mentions my name. We participated in the Njord - Autonomous Ship Challenge in 2023 and 2024 (https://www.njordchallenge.com/) organised in Trondheim, Norway. It was an international competition but unsure if recognised.
MC4 - I send out progress review invitation. I can share a screenshot of those invitations. There’s also a progress review which is highly confidential and unfortunately can’t be shared.

#OP1 & #OP4- What other supporting document I can provide to make it stronger ?
#OP2 - I’ve around 5 recordings with each around 2 Hours around Machine Learning and Tableau. Should I share all of it to make it stronger ?

Which 2 OC’s would you recommend ?

Thanks.

Would highly recommend you go through the details of each OC in the official TN guidelines here: Tech Nation Visa Guide - Tech Nation

Select the 2 where you can provide the best evidences. Examples of strong evidences are mentioned under each OC on the link.

Hi @nileshredz ,

I am not sure if you are getting the requirements right? You have to meet one Mandatory and 2 Optional. Which Optional Criteria you chose?

Please read the guide for more clarity…

Best of Luck!

Hi @Maya @pahuja,

Just updated.

- Society’s webpage featuring me as a Member.

Optional Criteria

#OP1: Talks or conference speaking that have had a significant viewership. Conferences must be widely regarded as sector-leading events for your field with at least 100 attendees (not registrations). As a speaker you must be speaking on the main stage and the invitation to speak must not have been paid for by your organisation as part of any sponsorship. (None of these were part of my MSc and Bachelors)

6 Evidence for MC and 4 Evidence for OP. What are your thoughts ?

Can you please highlight the two specific optional criterias you want to apply to and specifically number which evidences towards each?

@pahuja
There are the Optional Criteria (OP1 and OP2) I’m planning to apply. Is this what you were asking?
Two evidence towards each. We need 4 Unique Documents to meet the Optional Criteria?
Thanks.

Optional criteria 1 is about demonstrating your contribution in innovation and Optional criteria 2 is about demonstrating sector advancement outside of day to day job.

The above brief you have mentioned doesn’t match. It looks like you are attempting OC2 and OC3. Please confirm basis the the TN official guidelines and number the evidences within each - will be able to provide a fair review only with this clarity.

Hi @pahuja
My apologies. I got confused between the examples and the criteria.

OC2) How do I demonstrate that I have been recognised for my work outside of my immediate occupation that contributed to the advancement of the sector?

- Delivered session on Machine Learning and Tableau to Level 6 individuals which was outside my immediate work. It had more than 116 attendees. Will be sharing the One Drive link to the video (2 Hour).
- Dated appreciation email from the T&P Department on being a part of "Employability Skills Development Programme as a Trainer for ML .

OC4) How do I demonstrate that I have exceptional ability in the field by making academic contributions through research?
- Published a paper in the “Journal of Emerging Technologies and Innovative Research”. in (2021)
-A Technical Report published at the University in the UK (2023)
(None of these were part of my MSc and Bachelors)

OC2.1: was this session delivered in a leading digital technology event or conference? Can you provide the invite letter /appreciation letter highlighting your contribution?

OC2.2: this is not a valid evidence

I am nor confident about OC4 : @Francisca_Chiedu any suggestion?

hi @nileshredz ,

Number of Evidences for each Criteria: i think the distribution of your evidences is a bit risky. Normally candidates tend to submit at least 3 evidences for each criteria. Mandatory can be 4 for example and try to strengthen your other criteria which seem a bit insufficient.

Pick your Criteria that best matches your eligibility: are you trying to show innovation (OC1)? work outside your day to day job (OC2)? Impact (OC#) or your academic contribution (OC4)? I see you are a bit unclear or indecisive.

OC4 Evidences: 1. is the paper published by you? Where? do you have number of views? contributions? 2. was that report published by you? do you have any numbers? views?

OC2.1: This initiative was started to bridge the gap between industry and academia. The sessions were delivered by the industry experts and I was one of them. You can find more info below:

OC2.2: I’m unsure what more evidence could I provide.

@Francisca_Chiedu Yes please, I would be happy to receive your suggestions.

Number of Evidence: I read that we’re suppose to upload upto 10 documents. Atleast 2 from Mandatory (I’ve given 6 unique evidence) and atleast 4 for the Optional Criteria. I can add one more paper published in the international Journal of Engineering Research & Science.

Pick your Criteria that best matches your eligibility: I thought we can show across any of these and not just in one particular. Please correct me if wrong ?

OC4 Evidences: I’m one of the Authors of those paper. One of Supervisor was the co-author. I can see metrics like number of downloads (693) and Impact Score. Can’t see number of views however.

You need to select 2 Optional Criteria out of the 4 given.

Apologies, have been on holiday. His evidence don’t show a track record of contributions and some do not appear structure.

I still think he needs to study the guide and look through the forum for list of evidence used for successful applications.
