Need guidance - LORs

Hello,

I am working as senior software engineer having 9+ years of experience applying as ET (digital). I have mostly worked in a product based company.

I have got some questions regarding the LORs,

  • Is it fine if the recommender know me and my work from more than 5 years ago?
  • Is it fine if the recommender talks only about the work that I did outside my job i.e. Accelerator program, Hackathons etc., achievements within the tech field but not directly related to my main job?
  • Can I include LOR from the CTO and CEO of the current company I am working in for 5-6 years (and third from other) ?
  • Is it okay to include LOR from the person who know my work from a company where I worked as outsourced engineer? If yes, should it then be fine to include that experience in my CV as I read in one of the topics here that we shouldn’t talk about consultancy/outsource work.

I’d really appreciate the answers, thanks in advance.

  1. Recommender can know you for > 12 months but needs to talk about work of last 5 years since that is accepted by TN.
  2. One of the LORs yes but not all. Depends on collectively what al your LORs display.
  3. Yes you can - ensure they talk of different projects/things.
  4. Consultancy/outsourced work is not eligible as per TN. It will be a risk to do this.

Thank you for your reply @pahuja

  1. Just for me to clarify, a person who worked with me 7 years ago (e.g. for 6 months), s/he can write a recommendation letter talking about my work/achievements in the last 5 years would be a valid LOR?

No - please read the official TN guidelines for requirements for recommenders.
