Letter from Line Manager

Hi everyone,

I’m currently gathering all my evidence for the Exceptional Promise track and had a quick question regarding the mandatory criterion:

“How do I demonstrate that I have been recognised as (or recognised as having the potential to be) a leading talent in the digital technology sector in the last 5 years?”

So far, I have the following pieces of evidence:

  • Employment contract letter including salary, job title, company name, and contract type.
  • Letter from the business owner highlighting my leadership in developing a product, with supporting materials such as screenshots, team meeting notes, and GitHub commits.

I’m also planning to include a reference letter from my line manager that would cover:

  • Why I was hired
  • My impact on the company
  • My leadership potential and the trust I’ve built within the team
  • The tools and contributions I’ve made so far

However, I’ve read that references from direct managers might not be accepted. Is this correct, or would such a letter still be considered valid?

Thanks so much for your advice and support!

Warm regards,
Nahim O.

Only using the employment contract letter is not sufficient. If your salary can be proven it’s higher than average in the same role, etc. (like using Glassdoor) and also prove that you have made impacts or contributed in digital sector that’s outside of your day-to-day job. That could potentially be much better to prove. (as Tech Nation’s guidlines)

You can have recommendation letter from your line manager but you have to make sure to prove or mention why he/she is a recognized leader in digital sector, etc.

I don’t know how you put everything in your evidence and recommendation letter, but there’s no need to include screenshots in the recommendation letter.

Just try to read and follow the Tech Nation’s guidelines. Be aware of the change that’s coming on 1st of May. (don’t know if it’s still Tech Nation or not)

What is the change that is taking place in the 1st of May?

With Tech Nation. I don’t know what exactly. You can try to find on the internet.

Yup, they won’t be accepted. They aren’t accepted as a part of any additional letters of reference you supply either.

Hi @Akash_Joshi
I was considering to include my verification contract which include salary, job title, company name, and contract type. Additionally, includes a letter from my Line Manager which is the one who contracted me explaining why I was hired. Its not only my reference letter and even is not one of the 3 main letters. Is this possible? Because otherwise how I should prove the mandatory. I have othe option but I want to use it as one of the optional which is the OC3.

Warm regards,
Nahim O.

I am sorry but those are the rules written down in the technation guidance. Any deviance from the rules is based on your risk appetite.

I completely understand! Do you have any idea how I should prove my Mandatory? I was thinking on that track but according you mentioned, it will failed. Putting the validation contract, payslips thats it? or do you recommend me add other stuff ?

It’s hard to say without looking at the actual application.
