OC1

1. OC1 op1 (at coy 5)

Evidence of innovation/product development, proof of product in market and associated traction through revenue.

This is a company we just started, an AI company in which i am a cofounder, we are currently at the proof of concept stage. we currently have a client (that has 7 physical branches across Lagos)

i made a document with the following headings

  • company profile and what is innovative about us (I used companies in UK as examples so the assesor can relate well, there is currently no company in UK, as far as we know, that currently offers what we do)
  • Evidence of innovation
  • Proof of product in market: made links where they can checkout the products themselves, however i added a lot of screenshots (of the product in action) that should save them the stress.
  • Associated traction through revenue: I included our pricing charts
  • My role in the innovation: stated my role in building the MVP and screenshots of codes in github and other relevant platforms

2. OC1 op 1 & 4 (at coy 3)

Evidence of innovation/product development, proof of product in market and associated traction through revenue.
Evidence of employment contract with salary information including any bonus and equity options and history of earnings.

I made this about the company that i led its pivot
The document has the following headings

  • state of the company before i joined
  • state of the industry before i joined
  • The innovations i made (new market creation)
  • The notable events that changed the industry (negatively)
  • The innovations i made that saved the company and contributed to the industry
  • Code evidences in github, and other relevant platforms
  • Screenshots of the innovations in actions
  • References acknowledging my innovation claims (LoRef, Board Resolution, LoRec)

3. OC1 op 4 (at coy 4)

Evidence of employment contract with salary information including any bonus and equity options and history of earnings.

If you are an employee working in a new digital field or concept, this must be clearly demonstrated, for example by providing a patent application (patent should include verifiable ID on Google Patents).

pg1: employment contract
pg2: Patent information of the company i worked with
pg3: Payslip evidence

OC3

1. OC3 Biz op 3 (at coy 3)
pg1. LoRef by director
pg2. Board resolution in recognition of impact
pg3. Screenshot from LoRec by COO

2. OC3 Tech op3 (at coy 4)
pg1. LoRef by director
pg2. Employment contract
pg3. Screenshots of code evidence and schematics

Kindly share your opinion on my application (especially the weaknesses)
Thanks

Please your review is needed.
Thanks

Your evidence are mostly reference letters. Also, Outside your employment, how have you contributed to the sector?

Thank you so much for your time and feedback.
I’m grateful.

pg 1: LoRef by the director, pointing to the paragraphs in the reference that elaborates on the works outside my day-to-day role as a product manager, he categorized these works in 2

  • a. the ones i did that brought profit to the company
  • b. the ones that are made free to logistics operators (not for profit), though only accessible via the platform. Haven’t had time to make it an API so other platforms can have access

pg2: The screenshots of codes of the work outside my day-to-day contribution to the industry. also the screenshots of the works in action, being used by the target beneficiaries

pg3: I explained how I think the works i did outside my day-to-day role qualifies as open-sourced even though beneficiaries dont have access to the codes because they are not programmers (they are logistics businesses).
i also explained why my contributions outside work is not in the form of mentorship and public lectures

  • I thought the above could could qualify as work outside day-to-day, contributing to the sector.

  • I decided to use the company ref to acknowledge this as the beneficiaries who are businesses don’t know me directly as the person responsible for it (they know the platform that I work for to be responsible, while the platform credit me for the work in the reference.

Is there a better way I can communicate this?

This was why I support it with other evidences like codes on GitHub, equity, tractions where possible, contributions screenshots. I also make space for explanation of the evidences in each document

Pg1, pg2, pg3 makes one document

Are there better ways I could communicate this, please?

I’m grateful for your time, means a lot to me.
Thank you.

Are there better ways, given the situation?

I have 2 evidences for the OC3
My observation from the posts I’ve read here so far is that it is relatively easier to prove.

That’s why I make MC (5, most difficult), while OC1 (3)

given my evidences (there are figures in the letters, so they are not vague, exact impact is mentioned where figures are not available)

do you think my OC3 evidences are enough Or what are the weaknesses in it pls.

Thanks

You have a lot of reference letters. Probably share more code/design related evidence for OC3. The final decision is yours.

Thank you @westside, that’s the same observation as @Francisca_Chiedu

Will definitely reduce the references and replace with codes and similar evidences

I was refraining from much code references, as my role was majorly business (strategy and overall survival of the tech products)
Moreso, the codes are private, I can only share screenshots

Thank you so much, I’m grateful
Aside these, what other areas needs adjustments pls.

It makes sense then if you are more of a business role to have less code to show.

Would you advise differently, given this realization that I’m more on biz than technical (though I took responsibility of code (out of my day to day role) when delay was getting long).

Meanwhile, the reference letters had things like

He led the pivot of the company from X to y

One of the initiatives he introduced saved the company in about 30m in yearly expenses, if we were to do it in a different way

and so on…
The 1 page references talked mostly about my business impacts, then I added my code contributions in page 2

Given the comments by @Francisca_Chiedu and @westside and Having read hundreds more posts on this platform, specifically on how people summarised their evidences here

I thought I should conform to the advise and structure in the forum, maybe my perspective will be better understood.

Here it goes (the same info above, restructured)

MC

1. MC op1 (coy 3)

You led the growth of a product-led digital technology company as evidenced by reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your work, or as evidenced lines of code from public repos or similar evidence.

  • Lines of codes from github, Google play store dashboard screenshot

  • LoRef by the logistics platform director
Stating how how I led the pivot of the company from non-tech to a tech company.

  • code evidences from github, appscript and the schematics of the software (MVP) i built for the company

Aside the business end of my work, owing to the past experience of back and forth between PM (strategy) and Programmers, the company leveraged on my dual skills (strategy and programming)
I built the android version of the product, we used that for proof of concept and product market fit.
Afterwards, the company employed programmers that built iOS and desktop versions

3. MC ops 4 (coy 3)

Outside of your normal day-to-day job role, you led or were a significant contributor to a substantial open source project, as evidenced from compilation of code commit summaries, repo stars or similar metrics such as download statistics, where possible.

  • a. the ones i did that brought profit to the company

  • b. the ones that are made free to logistics operators (not for profit), though only accessible via the platform.

  • The screenshots of github commits of the work outside my day-to-day contribution to the industry. also the screenshots of the works in action, being used by the target beneficiaries

  • I also explained why I think the works i did outside my day-to-day role qualifies as open-sourced even though beneficiaries dont have access to the codes because they are not programmers (they are logistics businesses).

4. MC op6 (at coy 3)

You have received nationally or internationally recognised prizes or awards for excellence specifically in the digital technology sector, as evidenced by the award itself, reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your achievement, or as evidenced by news clippings or similar evidence.

  • Evidence of innovation at industry level
  • Evidence of my contribution in the innovation
  • Associated traction
  • Proof of product in the market

2. OC1 op 1 (at coy 3)

Evidence of innovation/product development, proof of product in market and associated traction through revenue.

  • Employment contract/Payslip
  • My rolpe in the innovation

OC3

1. OC3 Biz op 3 (at coy 3)
LoRef by director stating my impact with figures

2. OC3 Tech op3 (at coy 4)

  • Code evidence and schematics
  • Letter of reference by the director

I hope this communicates better.
Please what are the weaknesses??

I still don’t the difference in what you shared. Your application is just full evidence based on the companies you have worked. No external validation. Board resolution does not fit into the award or prize category. Your evidence are similar not unique. Don’t forget they have seen loads of applicants who have raised the bar in the selection process. If this is what you have then there is not much you can do, you may well be taking a gamble that an assessor may find it impressive.

Oops…
Thanks you so much for the much needed feedback ma.

So glad I’m getting this feedback on-time

? 1. Could you pls give an examples of external validation pls (like any C-suite I never worked for, a client right?) who else could tick as external.
Would people who dont know my work as much as the people I used do?
My concern about that is that their letters will definitely not be up to 3 pages.

? 2.

You have received nationally or internationally recognised prizes or awards for excellence specifically in the digital technology sector, as evidenced by the award itself, reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your achievement, or as evidenced by news clippings or similar evidence.

My interpretation of the above quote will still make me stick to this though.
For an employee to be promoted to a director, given equity as evidenced and reflecting in certificate of incorporation (ticks as nationally recognised and similar evidence… The certificate with my name on it is my main evidence, board resolution is to support the evidence)

? 3. I’m assuming the issues you pointed have to do with LoRecs and MC evidences.

? 4. On the similar evidences, does it mean if I make significant contributions maybe through growth in multiple companies, I can only refer to one of it?

Are the OCs ok? So I can focus on MC and recommenders

One thing to note is that no one other than the assessors can give you a final say. All advice here is more like gathering numerous points of view and using that to inform your decisions. TN may see things totally different from everyone else.

This I believe is one of the reasons TN has this as a condition. Their assumption is that an exceptional talent/promise will not just be exceptional at their work place(s) only. So an industry leader talking about your contribution to an activity clearly outside your day-to-day becomes valuable. Examples are given in the guide. Not having evidence for those is a different thing entirely.

The letters do not have to be up to 3 pages long. These things are very subjective. The reputation of the person writing the letter, your profile, and what the letter actually says carry some weight. It doesn’t have to be 3 pages long.

I don’t think that is what Francisca means. You can be great at pivoting businesses and have multiple evidence to support this (track record is a plus). The question is do you also have evidence to support being a public speaker in tech, a leading open source software developer, A mentor, and also a sought after panelist in tech in addition to being great at business? Showing evidence across these areas paints a stronger picture that in just one of the areas.

It is for these reasons that the TN guide may appear overwhelming. At the end of the day do your best to gather what you have and go for it if you believe you have a chance.

I can’t thank God for this forum enough.
Thank you @Francisca_Chiedu and @westside

Perhaps I need to go back to drawing board.
I have contacted some beneficiaries (CEO of companies that benefited from the free contributions that I made to the industry)

I have as well contacted someone who knows me and the achievements I’ve made, he is remote-employee of Facebook and CEO of a startup, I never worked with him before though)

A professor wrote for me too (but he is a director in one of the companies I worked for)

I have contributed strategically to success of some humanitarian projects and the CEOs can write in support of the claim.
But I never contributed in terms of code to open source as I’ve always seen my coding skills as an addition (not my major role)

External validations may not be a problem.

The major stumbling block I see now is public speaking and mentorship… (I’m a mentee too you know, just starting out my career, moreso unlike the programmer community, product manager (strategy) people of my career age are the ones receiving mentorship from CEOs and the likes.)

In all, I think at the end of the day the only things I can’t proof are 4 out of 10 MC criteria examples.

I’ll keep updating my profile here, till I’m more confident.

I’d still try my luck… I pray I get endorsed

I am so grateful for your time
I really hope you’re aware I’m applying for Promise not talent

Play to your profile strengths. Most profiles do not have everything.

@Francisca_Chiedu
Thank you for pointing this out.
I confirmed it now on TN guide

Internal company awards , training or certificates are also not sufficient for meeting this criterion

:pensive: thank you for pointing it out, even though I didn’t accept initially.

Pls guys, do you think I meet the following MC evidences examples;

  • op1: led growth via a team as evidenced by reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your work , or as evidenced by news clippings, lines of code from public repos or similar evidence

  • op2: I led the business development at a product-led digital technology company, demonstrably enabling substantial revenue and/or customer growth or major commercial success, as evidenced by reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your work, senior global commercial executives inside the company and/or at company partners/customers, or similar evidence

  • Op3: You led the growth of a non-profit organisation or social enterprise with a specific focus on the digital technology sector, as evidenced by reference letter(s) from leading industry expert(s) describing your work, or as evidenced by news clippings or similar evidence

I was the product manager for an humanitarian crowd funding platform in its early days (though I stopped contributing 2.5 yrs ago owing to busy schedule)
It was non-paid contributions, and the platform has really grown now. The executive director is willing to make a reference for me.

I’m hoping this can qualify as external validation

  • Op5: Outside of your normal day-to-day job role, you established, led or were a senior contributor to a large technology-led industry initiative, evidenced through reference letter(s) from global senior project executives

A CEO of one of the beneficiary companies is willing to make reference to this for me.
And the contributions were free

I hope this too can be external validation

  • Op9 High pay

My question however is this.
How many of the 10 MC examples must one meet to be ideal?

Also, my recommenders are now: 2 CEOs (I’ve worked for) and a CEO of a tech coy who has known me since my undergraduate days in school

Good day everyone.
@Francisca_Chiedu, @westside
I really appreciate your feedback on my case.
Given the advise I got earlier which helped in re-assessing my options/evidences , the following are what I am able to arrive at.

This is a detailed post (it’s a bit long), thanks for your time and feedback in advance

Background
I am a product manager (business end, however I manage developers)
One of my exceptional qualities is my full stack technical skills, which startups founders appreciate is my ability to build MVPs then employ developers who will take it from there after we establish product market fit.
My focus is on tech startups.
All these information are well established in my SoP, LoR & CV.

The following are the evidences I plan to submit

Letters of Recommendation

  1. Founder and CEO of 4 successful tech companies that span telecoms, fintech, cyber security
And he was my former employer
His letter talks extensively about my:
  • leadership and impact in turning around 4 companies.
  • My innovations, listed about 10 with details
  • My contributions outside employment
  1. Founder and CEO of a software development company. My former employer too

This letter was about my leadership in turning around his company

  1. Chairman of a group of tech companies (we never worked together before, but he has known me since 2013)
    This talked about my
  • non-profit contributions to the society (tech based) he detailed 3 cases
  • My achievements in leading 2 companies he was aware of.

This is a company I co-founded, we’ve completed our MVP, product market fit. There is a company currently using it in Nigeria.
However the evidence used companies in UK as examples for better understanding, moreso as far as we know, there is no company in UK that does what we do.
In the document, I highlighted the following:

  • The innovation context
  • The evidence of innovation using UK as case study
  • Proof of product in market (with screenshots of product in action)

  • Pg1: reference from the COO detailing 7 distinct ways I impacted the company
  • Pg2: Board resolution to reward my enormous impact with increase in salary and promotion
  • Pg3: evidence of the effect of board resolution

Pls, don’t be lenient with your feedback, I really want it to be criticized. Better here than by assessor

Thanks, your comment means a lot to me.

What is the difference between what you shared previously and now? How is a humanitarian organisation a tech no nonprofit?
How old is your patent and what kind of patent do you have?

  • I replaced what I put as nationally recognised award with the non-profit
  • Certificate of registration of patent (since 2018) owned by the company that employed me.
There is a section in OC1 that says it can be used, so I specified my role in the new field.
It is a voice biometric patent owned by my employer and I worked on it.

If you are an employee working in a new digital field or concept, this must be clearly demonstrated, for example by providing a patent application (patent should include ver…)

  • There were some contributions I made in the industry. So a CEO of one of the beneficiary companies wrote on it.

  • The places where there are reference letters are always supported with other evidences

  • External validations in my LoR

  • The organisation is a tech based social enterprise, it’s an online crowd funding platform that use USSD technology among others to offer social solutions

My evidences are distinct as follows

  • 1 extra Letter of Recommendation
  • 4 Letters of References (2 external, 2 from my employers in 2 different companies)
  • 4 Code evidences
  • 1 product schematics
  • 1 Employment contract
  • 1 Payslip
  • 1 Payscale comparison
  • 1 internal award in recognition of impacts
  • 1 certificate of incorporation showing my equity in a successful company
  • 1 dashboard evidence
  • 1 Patent certificate
  • 3 Evidences of my roles in innovation of 3 companies

:point_up_2: to show that reference letters are not the bulk of my evidences
