Inquiry about Stage 1 Endorsement as a Software Engineer

Greetings,

I am in the process of applying for the endorsement of the UK GTV as a software engineer of over 10+ years working with banks and i have the following questions after going through some of the threads on the forum:

  • Does my experience working in various banks cut it? One of the requirements i see is that it must be a product-led organisation but in another paragraph, it states that “Technical applicants (i.e. programmers) from non-technical organisations are eligible.”
  • In my current employment, i am currently working remotely for another bank but through an outsourcing firm called Andela. Can i use the payslip from the outsourcing firm as an evidence seeing that i am not working directly for Andela?
  • Can one suppliment evidences with IT certifications?

I have worked on innovative solutions with the banks which i intend to highlight in my application but i want to get clarity on the above questions before i can start off.

Thank you for your anticipated response.

Hi @Buchi your experience as software engineer at multiple banks is fine - what’s more important is to demonstrate significant contribution, impact and backing evidences to align with the guideline asks.

Payslips of outsourcing organisations should be strictly avoided as this will be counted as ineligible under working for an outsourcing firm.

Self upskilling IT certificates are not valid evidences for any criteria. Please review the official TN guidelines thoroughly for list of accepted evidences.

Thank you @pahuja for your feedback. Your points are well noted.

Hi Buchi, based on the applications and rejection proformas I’ve seen so far:

  • Having worked only for banks does make it tough. The requirement for both MC and OC3 is to have product-led digital tech experiences. Depending on your role and the purpose of the bank itself, it might be difficult to prove that for the GTV.
  • Outsourcing is strictly discarded as a valid experience by the technation committee.
  • Unfortunately certifications carry little value.

I would recommend going through successful applications in this forum and rethinking your strategy.

Thank you @Akash_Joshi for your feedback.

One thing i would like to add is that GTV Guide suggests product led company and Innovation in a product lead company. Such criterias shoudl be considered while preparing your application.

@Buchi

Does my experience working in various banks cut it? One of the requirements i see is that it must be a product-led organisation but in another paragraph, it states that “Technical applicants (i.e. programmers) from non-technical organisations are eligible.

Yes! You are right that “Technical applicants (i.e. programmers) from non-technical organisations are eligible.” However, this is talking about ones eligibility to apply for the Global Talent Visa, through Tech Nation. This is different from showing that an evidence rightly meet a criteria.

For instance: Regardless or an applicant being Technical or coming from the business side, if your evidence will rightly meet OC1, it must demonstrate that one has a proven track record of innovation in the digital technology sector as a founder or senior executive of a product-led digital technology company.

  • In my current employment, i am currently working remotely for another bank but through an outsourcing firm called Andela. Can i use the payslip from the outsourcing firm as an evidence seeing that i am not working directly for Andela?

Yes! You can use pay-slip, and explain that you work for bank through “Andela” - Andela is a global talent network that connects brilliance with opportunity around the world to create sustainable, high-performing technology teams. Working though Andela validates your skills. But note that salary is a weak evidence and needs to be complemented with strong evidence.

  • Can one suppliment evidences with IT certifications?

Whilst there is a place where you are asked about your highest qualification, which shows it adds a bit here and there to the applicants narrative, unfortunately certifications don’t qualify as evidence.

All the best.

Many thanks @Raphael , @Pankaj_Doharey for your suggestions.

Will review accordingly as per guidelines and revert if further clarifications are needed.
