Does OC1 need a patent?

I see under OC1 it says:

“If you are an employee working in a new digital field or concept, this must be clearly demonstrated, for example by providing a granted patent (patents should include verifiable ID on Google Patents). Note that patent ‘applications’ are insufficient in demonstrating innovation, all patents used as evidence must be granted.”

Does the evidence listed for OC1 need a patent? Can I qualify for OC1 if there is no patent for the evidence I am using? The evidence I am planing to use is something I worked on at a large company and do not have control over patent filing

It needs a patent. Specifically, a granted patent.

Hi @Chloe it is not mandatory to have a patent. What’s important is to have verifiable evidence to demonstrate that you led the innovation and it can be significantly attributed to you.

Hi Akash, I am a co founder of a b2b saas and planning to use OC1 on the grounds of Innovation on product which has a global traction with 30 + clients , do I need a Patent?

If you’re one of the founders it becomes easier. The patent requirement is only for employees applying for OC1.

Thanks for the reply Akash. In one of your post you mentioned about Docu sign. If i get all letters just signed and scanned will that work?

Docusign is definitely required nowadays - they do like to see that in your docs
