Dear Team,
What’s your advice about submitting a cover letter as one of the 10 supporting documents ? What is the format of this cover letter ?
3 Docs for MC, 6 docs for OC and a Cover letter = 10 Documents
Following is the extract from technation.
- You must use the Tech Nation application form to state which of your supporting documents relate to your chosen Eligibility Criteria. If you choose to provide this information in the form of a cover letter you will need to upload it as one of your ten supporting documents.
I don’t think it is necessary, how will the cover letter be different from the personal statement. I would rather use that for an additional evidence in relation to an eligibility criteria.

I worked with a lawyer and we submitted a cover letter with the format suggested by Tech Nation. It was an easy way to map the evidence provided to the eligibility criteria.

Us the cover letter different from the personal statement? What format are you referring to?
@mclarenf1
Do you mind to describe more about how that layout looks like ? You can even just share the skeleton, how many pages etc
Yes, the cover letter was quite different than the personal statement. It served as more of a summary my entire application, showing how they all tie together to meet and exceed the criteria (in one document, as opposed to using the application form). Generally speaking, it served as a document to almost “instruct” the assessors on how to read and interpret my application. It was three pages in length.
As per Tech Nation:
- You must use the Tech Nation application form to state which of your supporting documents relate to your chosen Eligibility Criteria. If you choose to provide this information in the form of a cover letter you will need to upload it as one of your ten supporting documents.
I’m sure you can structure it differently, but I included:
-
Personal Background section that included a but more in-depth look at my career and key innovative projects + products, details on boards that I sit on, and information regarding job offers I have received in the UK. I also highlighted some of the softer skills, as well as awards I’ve received.
-
Criteria Overview and how the evidence I submitted meets that criteria. I included the most impressive metrics in this section, always pointing back to innovation and leadership.
